I figured since the flying is coming from SkyWay everyone would have a hayday with it. Am I wrong? I could be, my wife tells me I'm wrong all the time:)

yea, skyway's flight ops are shutting down in april and skywest will be getting more jets to cover the skyway stations (with less frequency/same amount of seats)

now all my skywest friends have to help get me a job over there

Let me get this straight: SkyWay is not going to be flying anymore?

Since when is SkyWay shutting down?? First I've heard of it.....

Press release makes it sound like more MKE, not necessarily MCI as expected..

The press release on Midwest Airlines' website says that the flight operations portion of Skyway will be shut down, but Skyway will continue as an "airport services" function.

SkyWest will now operate ALL Midwest Connect flights with the CRJ-200 aircraft.

Well, I just read through the press release put out by Midwest Airlines and it explicity says:

"As flight operations transition to SkyWest in March and April, Skyway Airlines will discontinue providing regional flight operations for Midwest Airlines, which will result in the elimination of the positions of approximately 380 Skyway employees – mostly pilots, flight attendants, mechanics and dispatchers."

I actually, really, truly do feel bad for anyone losing their job over this.

The press-release just says more aircraft...I think if we get more than just a few, it would make sense to make MCI a domicile - that would be a separate SkyWest announcement, My thoughts are that there will not be too much more flying out of MCI just because the routes we'll be taking are Skyway's out of MKE...that sounds bad...I know it, and I apologize. No nice way of saying that I suppose.

I had dinner on a GRB overnight with a Skyway crew last week and they were good people. I hate to see anything less than great happen to ya'll.

Wow that's terrible for anyway SkyWay guys out there. I hope that SkyWest offers any SkyWay pilot, F/A, Dispatcher, or Mechanic a job... We certainly can use people that already want to be in MKE... Any SkyWay pilot can PM me for help on getting on at SkyWest if they'd like.

Sounds like SkyWay guys will be given "preferential" hiring...

The additional flying will be covered by the existing agreement between MEH and SKYW...sounds like they will be getting all 10 additional aircraft to cover the old SYX flying. From the press release it sounds like less frequency on the current SYX routes but keeping all the outstations open (i.e. 2-3 flights a day to the MSNs, GRBs, ATWs, GRRs, etc. instead of 4-5/day with the DoJets)

Well, with the frequency of flights being cut, the CSA's should prepare themselves for a cut as well. Cutting flights depending on the schedule would be difficult to keep all CSA's. Best wishes go out to the SkyWay guys out there. I hope they at least offer some kind of separation package of some sort.....

Well, it has been pretty hilarious to watch MEH over the past year or so announce how they need the public's support to keep everyone's jobs safe in MKE and remain the "hometown airline" of MKE. Then 4 months later announce that they are cutting 400 jobs of mostly WI residents in favor of another company from out of state (only SLC instead of ATL).

Are they really going to replace the 1900 routes into the smaller outstations with CRJ-200 aircraft? Those 1900s went to some pretty small airports with some pretty small runways...

Is this new Midwest Connect flying possibly the reason why the ORD and (I think) MKE domiciles have been so overstaffed, in preparation for the transition of flying?

No, the 1900s (all 4 of them!) are only covering EAS routes now. The CRJs will be placed on the OMA/DSM/BNA/SDF/ATW/GRB/GRR/MSN/CWA/FNT/CMH/DAY/etc flights.

Regional underbidding race to the bottom! I doubt Skywest cost more than Skyway.

So does anybody know what will happen with EAS? Doesn't somebody have to do those flights? Can the govt force somebody like Mesaba to do those EAS routes?

Really, dude - take a chill-pill. It's the way of the world, so get used to it. It may not be a perfect system, but it works to some degree. We wouldn't be contractors otherwise - you should know that.

And for your first thought up there - how does that make any sense?? This is a 70+ seat world. If nobody wants even 50 seaters anymore due to cost, why on earth would Midwest want 32 seaters?! MEH has been wanting 50 seaters for some time now. For reasons unbeknownst to me, Skyway failed to get any on property. I hate to say it but this was the next logical step.

Uncle Sam can't force anybody to do that flying. Those communities, if nobody bid for it, would lose their air-service...

That sure is a bummer for the Skyway guys, and congrats to the Skywest guys.

It's the way of the world. You're right... and do you do anything to change that? No, you have SAPA/Jerry and they want to pay you less for the 70+ seat world! You ***** yourself out to Skywest down to 4 days off a month just to credit over 100 hours. Is that the way you want the airline pilot profession to be? We're all just a bunch of underbidding contractors? Sure I understand capitalism, but this is getting out of hand and you know it. Is this the way you want to struggle to pay off your college loans from dwc? Stop the apathy stop setting for less. That attititude is not helping.


The next logical step would be for SkyWest pilots to step it up. If you are going to keep getting flying here and there, perhaps you could establish some pay rates so that you [and everyone else] can get by without having 4 days off a month. Then maybe you-can relax-and take a chill-pill. LoL

...and, ExperimentalAB do you think the 70+ seat world should be at mainline?

I sure hope so. Stop defending flying the CRJ 700 and 900 for $19 an hour.

i am so sick of people defending the regional world. from someone who is still at it, this isnt what i got into commercial aviation for. not for $25/hr at a crappy regional. there are so many things wrong with this industry, and the attitude "It's the way of the world" and "It may not be a perfect system, but it works to some degree" is the only reason it is still like this. n2rotation had every right to rant. especially with the restarting at the bottom of the seniority list. what kind of industry do you go from one company to another and all the sudden your not as good at what you do and you need to get paid crap to do it, until a year later when your skills sharpen back up? RIDICULOUS! and this is a 70+ seat world, but mainline should be freaking flying them!!

Yep...you're absolutely right. Again! Wow...because I was there at mainline when they released scope! Unlike you, I'm going to continue to make the best of this backwards industry!

Look, I understand how you and others can twist statements with the intent of slurring others basic meaning, that’s fine, you guys do it all your what.

There are so many things wrong with this industry both at the regional level and mainline level. I'm not going to defend an industry that can take a great group of laborers and stick them out on the street while forcing them to start of at less than poverty wages. I deeply feel for all Skyway, Big Sky and Maxjet pilots and employees.

As for the above statement, I continually credit above 120 with some months above 140 and I've NEVER had less than 13 days off. I average 15 off with 125 or so credit.

Absolutely! I'd take a mainline number any day of the week - heck I'll go fly the Brasilia for United if they let me! Can you give me a mainline number? Didn't think so...

And I'll go ahead and defend my $19 anytime. I make here at this rate what a third year FO does at Trans States (when there were third year FO's). On second-year pay I can gross what a junior CA there would make as well...but money aside, I Love being here at SkyWest. If ya'll can't handle that, get over it. Unless mainline comes knocking, I'm happy right here. Hopefully some day you can say the same.

Guys, you have to understand that there is a lot of animosity against Skywest pilots right now for "riding coat tails" sort of speak. Some humility would help.

Ya'll won't ever be happy with SkyWest. All you need to do is respect our decisions. You complain that we're non-union. You complain that SAPA is a crock. You tell us "we told you so" when you got a BS pay raise on the table...a little respect on your parts would go a long way. Calling your regional better than mine is like saying you're the smartest kid on the short-bus.
