The "what" isn't quite as important as the "lack of a serial number."

How do you become licensed to teach in MN? Does having your CFI satisfy this requirement. I heard somewhere that it does.

This seems like something worthwhile.

Any additional information you have is appreciated

You have to have at least a bachelors degree. If you go to Minnesota Public Schools website there is information on there about it.

I am not sure but you might need to have a recommendation from someone that works in the district. But I am not sure about that. Anyways I hope this helps out.

In New Jersey all you need is a college degree to be a substitute. Then you go to the district of your choice and register. requires fingerprinting and background check. If you want to be available to multiple districts you could try a service like Source4Teachers and that allows you to sub anywhere you want in the area, and you can check for openings the night before online.

Substitute Teachers:

Texas requires only a HS Diploma or equivalent.

California requires a 4 year degree and for you take the CBEST (California Basic Education Standardized Test).

I believe that is for teaching assistants or aides. To be the substitute teacher you need 60 hours of college credit. The pay isn't that good in Texas though, here in Montgomery County it is only $70 per day.

Tomball pays $100 i believe but you have to have a 4 year degree. If you dont have a degree its 75ish.

Job to Go

The requirement a lot of pilots have is that they must jump and run in short notice and that kinda screws alot of possibilities. During flight training I made good money fixing windshield chips on cars. Before I found these pilot forums, I was learning from those forums. You can be on the way to the airport PDQ given 30 minute notice.
People expect to pay $35 for a decent repair and insurance companies will sometimes pay $70. It usually only takes 30 minute to complete a job and the equipment pays for itself quickly.

jeez, I guess I am the only smart one here.

I work as a bar back (getting cases, changing kegs, etc.) at a local pub two or three nights a month. I get a small cut of the tips ($30-40 for an evening), but the best part is I haven't PAID for a drink in weeks.

No, I'm smarter...I bartend and serve and make about 5 times more than that on a short shift. Not to mention I get to pour my own drinks.

I would try to work at a restaurant once or twice a week if you can find a place that will be flexible with you. Don't bus or barback unless you just want beer money.

Let's see - you can look up affiliate marketing - dental plans, online pharmacies, even payday loans. I've made a little side money as an affiliate. Some affiliate sites will provide a web template for you to use.

A neighbor is a reservationist at home for Express Jet. Another friend does online teaching. Cruise real estate sites and see what great buys there are on fixer-upers or foreclosures right now and become an investor or an agent. I've seen ads for online jurors - don't know how legit that is. Hope that helps!

SayAgain 02-05-2008 06:45 PM

Here's another idea - we had a new f/o at ASA that stole headsets and sold them on ebay. Of course if you get caught like he did...

VQ2 Spanky 02-05-2008 07:01 PM

The National Guard is always looking for good pilots. Officer pay is not bad and can provide a huge supplement to your regional salary. Just call you local National Guard office.

I'm a so-so pilot, at best. When does the NG look for that? :D

ghilis101 02-05-2008 08:01 PM

im a pretty mediocre pilot and i made it into the reserves so you can too! and if you dont want a 2nd job, dont forget for all you NJ locals you can drive down to atlantic city and win big there and possibly get laid:)

ChinookDriver47 02-06-2008 06:50 AM

The guard is always a good idea. We take FMS monitors and make them pilots again.

citationdrvrmob 02-06-2008 09:35 AM

Isn't there an age cutoff to join the guard as a pilot, or is that just active duty?

Maybe Texas sets it by school district. Conroe ISD pays the rates I stated before. Sounds like anyone in the Houston area should sub in Tomball!

I applied to Spring ISD...don't remember anything about 60 credits being required however I may have over-looked it since I qualify for that.

And Newport Mesa USD requires the CBEST to be taken (last I checked. I'm way to lazy to look it up right now).

I wish I could bartend on my days off, but I have no experience. Any advice?... I guess just start by being a barback?

Air Force is in SUPT by age 30. Not sure about the Army. You'd probably have to start the process by the time you turn 28 to get a pilot slot in time in the ANG.

The Tomball Requirements

They seem to be the same as Conroe, with the same pay.

A. To be eligible to serve as a substitute teacher in the Tomball
Independent School District a person must
1. Have completed a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours
of college for substitute teachers
2. Have completed a minimum of forty-eight (48) semester hours
of college for paraprofessional substitutes
3. Be approved by the Personnel Department.
B. It is a requirement of the Texas Education Agency that school districts
maintain a personnel file on each substitute teacher employed. The
following list of items is required for the personnel file:
Completed application
College transcript
Teaching certificate (if applicable)
Tuberculosis examination (skin test or chest X-ray)
Form W-4
Form I-9 (including a copy of two identities, social security, and driver's license)
Information sheet (emergency contact)
Access to Records (criminal record check)
Letter of Reasonable Assurance
Worker's Compensation Letter
Substitutes that work either short or long term positions (more than 25 days) must produce official transcripts and an original teaching certificate.C. In order for your name to be removed from the substitute roster, you must make a request in writing to the Personnel Department.

A. All substitute checks will be mailed to the substitute's home address the day prior to each designated payday. Substitutes will be paid in half day or whole day increments only. Each building secretary will maintain a time card for pay purposes, which will be turned in to the Payroll Department. Should there be a question regarding paychecks, first contact the building secretary and then the Payroll Department if further assistance is needed. Substitutes will have Medicare, Social Security and Federal Withholding deducted from their paychecks. Any substitute who is a former TISD employee who has an accrued sick leave balance MAY NOT use this sick leave to be paid for days that you are unavailable to substitute. Sick leave may only be used if you resume full-time employment with our district.

B. Substitute teachers in the Tomball Independent School District shall be reimbursed for their services in keeping with the following guidelines:
Substituting for 1-9 days in the same position, or in different positions: $75.00 per day. Substituting in the same position for 10 or more consecutive days: $85.00 per day, retroactive to the first day of that assignment.
Short-term: extended substituting in the same position for 25+ consecutive days, and holding appropriate degree and valid Texas certification for the position; may receive the daily rate for a beginning full-time teacher, after proof of eligibility is established, and subject to the approval of the Personnel Department. At the end of the assignment a balloon payment will be issued for the difference in the beginning teacher daily rate and the amount you have been paid to date for consecutive days worked. A break in service of no more than 5% of the assignment will not effect this status if the short-term substitute is responsible for planning for the assignment during this break. Benefits are not included.

C. Substitute Paraprofessionals: Substitutes for paraprofessionals in instructional positions may be utilized as needed on a daily basis. Substitutes for paraprofessionals in clerical/office positions require an anticipated absence of the employee for a minimum of 5 consecutive days, or approval from the Director of Personnel.
District training will be offered for substitutes interested in working special classes (PPCD, Developmental, Functional Living, LAB) Verification of attendance must be submitted to Payroll.
Substitute paraprofessionals in Tomball ISD shall be reimbursed for their services in keeping with the following guidelines:
a. Substituting for 1-9 days in the same position, or in different positions: $60 per day ($7.50 per hour) for general services; $75 per day for district-trained substitutes in special classes.
b. Substituting in the same position for 10+ days: $70 per day for general services, $85 per day for district-trained substitutes in special classes, retroactive to the first day.

Basically what you do is take orders from home for as seen on TV products. It is minimum wage but you can earn up to 10 an hour if you take a lot of calls.

You need to have a high speed internet connection, computer, and landline phone that is basic (no caller ID, call waiting, 3 way calling, etc..).

You go through CBT training. I took 3 days to complete spending about 3 hours at a time.

Once you finish the CBT's you log on and take calls. You log onto work on the "west at home application" software and your phone is made available for calls.
When you have a phone call coming to you the screen says "incoming call" and the script for the product they are calling about comes up on your screen.
You read the script verbatim. You take the credit card info address and such. Once the order is complete you press a button that says next call and you wait for the next one to come in.
Since the phone calls are routed to you you don't need long distance and you are not charged for phone usage when taking calls.

Some people watch movies or TV, I study for the ATP between calls.

The minimum amount of time you have to work is 4 hours a month. Max is 40 a week.

If you want more info on what its like feel free to message me.

fly safe!

What do you average for an hourly salary? Do you know if the minimum wage changes due to whatever state you are living in considering that most states have different minimum wage laws?

And is the 3 days of training done online at home also? Or do you have to skip town to go to it.

I have the same question, how much money you make on "average"... are there specific hours during the week where you get more money than other times(because you receive more calls)??... im not an Airline Pilot, but my Schedule is pretty screwed up since im in college and working on my Instrument Rating 4 times a week... so my schedule is always changing... i just quit my job at Dominos Pizza so i lost my "seniority" with the schedule, and i dont think somebody wants to hire me with my bad schedule... im unemployed! help!
