PSA Upgrades

To all my PSA brethren:

I just read the daily DRS, and there are 30 captain vacancies! I have not seen this many upgrades announced at once. This is great news. This will put my class near the top of the FO seniority list, and we are just approaching our one year mark! Everyone should see a substantial gain in seniority.

Things sure are looking good.

bassslayer 02-07-2008 04:24 PM

I don't know what your looking at but todays DRS said 1 Captain Vacancy.

Texas Pilot - Since you've been there almost one year, what do you think of the company and I would really like to know what your schedule has been like during this first year. I live in Dayton and have been thinking about returning to commercial flying with PSA. Thanks.

ksatflyer 02-16-2008 11:09 PM

I just finished up OIE and Im Dayton based soon to move to Knoxville. So far so good. As far as those upgrades, I talked to an FO the other day that got awarded upgrade next class, hes been there only a year and a half. Anyone know of a good crashpad in TYS while im at it?

seafeye 02-17-2008 06:58 AM

Right now PSA has a horrible pass rate for the upgrades. Somewhere between 30-50% pass rate. Last class only 2 of 6 passed.
Doesn't matter what the time to upgrade goes down to if nobody get through.

texaspilot76 02-17-2008 09:06 AM

From what I understand, the failures are due to guys going in there unprepared. You must know your POH and FOM cover to cover before you set foot in the classroom. The majority of the failures are occuring at the oral, not the sim.

abspecial 02-19-2008 07:06 PM

Well....had I stayed at PSA I would be upgrading next month. When I left upgrade time was about 4 yrs. March would have been my 15th month at the company. Could not have forseen the high fail rate for upgrades, and there was way more FO's ahead of me than projected upgrades. Just one of those roll of the dice situations.

texaspilot76 02-19-2008 09:20 PM

The company just sent a message to all the first officers requesting their flight time to assess how many will be eligible for upgrade this year. Something definately is going on. I have a feeling that the 900's are on the way. Mesa is not fufilling their contract with Airways, so I think it is pushing our 900 plans forward.

cosmosdrvr 02-20-2008 10:55 AM

Does PSA have A/C on order? Is there planned groth or is attrition bringing the upgrade time down?

texaspilot76 02-20-2008 11:40 AM

All the flowbacks are leaving in 2 months. That explains the recent upgrades. However, it appears they are planning many more, and the word through the grapevine is that more aircraft are coming.

I wouldn't hold your breath...

And if PSA does get 900's in the future, make sure you guys get paid to fly them! CRJ-900's would have been on property over a year ago if the management were willing pay the pilots more to fly them.

cosmosdrvr 02-22-2008 06:50 AM

What are the req's to upgrade? It seems PSA has been hiring low time guys for a while.

texaspilot76 02-22-2008 04:33 PM

ATP minimums.

texaspilot76 02-25-2008 12:10 PM

Attn HSLD:

The most junior captain in the current upgrade class has an October 2006 hire date. Where do we submit this information to update the information on APC?

PMeyer 02-25-2008 01:50 PM

http://airlinepilotcentral.com/airli...ional/psa.html

Where it says, Have an update?

seafeye 02-25-2008 02:10 PM

It's actually Aug 06. But these were 6 people that were at Piedmont then MidAtlantic then PSA. They were J4J's. So don't count in the "Real" seniority list.
I believe the new time to upgrade is going to drop to 2 years soon. So far no one in class has less than 2.6 years at PSA.

I just got hired on in January. In the interview they made it sound like they were going to get the CRJ 900 soon. There are a lot of pilots leaving to go back to fly for US Airways that PSA hired when they were on furlough from the mainline. Rumor has it that upgrades could go down to 1.5 to 2 years. But it is a rumor so…

I just looked at the Master seniority list and the upgrade awards. The most junior person in the March upgrade class is a October 2006 hire. I am not even counting the CEL guys you are referring to.

welle036 02-26-2008 02:07 PM

Can anyone see this sort of drop in upgrade time happening at eagle anytime soon?

rickB 02-26-2008 04:01 PM

tooooo many people at american eagle

My old roommate, who was one spot junior to me at PSA, has an upgrade class date of March 12th. Our hire date was 10/02/06.

I don't think they did out of seniority upgrades. The only reason why i can see this as possible is if this person is Management and is teaching in the training dept. Otherwise there would be a grievence filed.

It is not out of senoirity. There are a bunch of people who have passed up upgrade. They were skipped over by their own choice. I have researched this. Trust me. It is happening. The most jumior upgrade in the March class is October 06.

That, as well as there has been quite a few people failing their upgrade class.

Didn't you two share a "pizza" in Dayton???:D

av8tr_2007 03-04-2008 06:37 AM

No, but I think we did karaoke together. What's up with the "quotations." PM if its something I missed.

Shanejj, do you know how long it's taking to get CLT as a base?

Also, what's up with all the CA failures? Do you know what the most common mistake is?

Thanks for your input in advance.
