A captain I was flying with told me that Republic will pay off your training contract from another carrier and give you a 2500 dollar bonus if you take the CRJ as a new hire. Is this true? Also, I heard that the CRJ at Republic has no growth and guys aren't moving much on the seniority list and sitting reserve for long periods of time. I even heard that Republic was looking to go to an all E-Jet fleet. Any truth to this? Someone who knows for sure please either squash the rumor or confirm it for me.

I've heard nothing about the training contract thing. They were offering a $2500 bonus for new hires that were already ERJ 145 or CRJ 200 qualified and they went to that airplane. Don't know if it's still in effect. The CRJ's were never a long range plan and even when they were announced it was stated they will only be around on a short-term basis. Most of the guys that went from the ERJ to the CRJ hate it, think it's a POS, can't wait to get rid of it. Until last November, we were an all Embraer company, and I would expect to get back to that inside the next two years.

What do you make of this new CLE CRJ base? Does this mean more hiring and movement for the CRJ guys/gals? I would love to come work at Republic and may be willing to stick it out on the CRJ until I can upgrade on the 170. Republic would be a huge upgrade from where I'm at regardless of aircraft, base.

The contract (as a whole) was for 10 years (or somewhere around there)...so 2016/2017. The CRJ's were only planned to be a part of that for a very short time period (2-3 years). The CRJ's are supposed to be gone by 2010. The ERJ's currently operating for CAL will be there the full length of the contract.
RUMOR: I don't know the exact details on what happens when the CRJ's start leaving. The RUMOR was they would be replaced with some DAL/UAL 145's as those two codeshares take on more 170/175's (previously announced) although nothing has been stated by the company. CAL's foward looking data shows the CRJ's leaving and the only additions being Colgan Q400's. Take it for what it's worth.
