Yea this guy is so right. I wear my full pilot uniform everywhere I go because I don't wanna look like a dolt with pieces of Uniform. I've walked into a bar in full pilot uniform as well to order some food and a beer before it closed. I talk to ALLLLL THE GIRLS :rolleyes:

At least take off the boards and crew badge. I can't believe you compared pilots to cops. We eat at the airport in full uniform, and they eat in their precinct in full uniform. Completely different.

Does anyone know if students wear a uniform at AriBen Aviator school during their training? I will attend there after I retire from the Army.
One stripe- PPL
two stripes - Comm
Three stripes - Multi engine

Do I have that right? I am just learning the aviation stuff and studying books to prepare to attend PPL course after returning back to the states this summer.

I'm not sure about Ari-Ben, but I think most of these schools charge about $10K, per stripe, per shoulder. :) From what I understand $80K or so at Pan Am will get you a CFII, and four cool stripes. Add $2k-$4K per stripe for Riddle pukes....

Just bustin' your balls a little Soldierboy. Don't sweat the unifrom stuff in the civilian world. It's just another way for them to get a few more $ from you. Having to buy a uniform, when you are a paying customer is a joke. Tell them to where to stick it regarding the uniform. I'll bet they're still more than happy to take your money.

I've seen a USAir Airbus capt. wearing around a flannel in place of a blazer with his uniform.



I'm not defending him, he looked like he just came home from a hunting trip. Just saying the regional guys are not the only ones who don't wear the standard attire.

Its rare to even see the Airways guys wearing the hat.....i think ive counted maybe 10 pilots in almost a year who were wearing them

So I start ioe next week and I'm having uniform problems. I've got the shirt and the pants and everything but I don't have a blazer that fits right at all. The shoulders are way too big to the point that it just look ridiculous. Sadly I don't have time to get a new one before I start flying. But I have to wear the blazer, right? Do I have any other options? I feel like I have more to worry about at this point than my uniform but I'm stressing out about nonetheless. I really want to look professional but it just looks like I stole some random man's blazer.

Try and take it to a store like MACYS or of similar quality. Tell them that you need to have it taken in and fitted correctly. Stores like this usually sell high price suits, and not everyone is exactly a of the shelf size. Mens Wharehouse is also a very good place to get alterations done quickly, and they always have a professional working there to make sure everything fits Wallstreet Perfect. I would try the Mens warehouse first and then a dept. store second. Good luck and Im sure you'll be looking Fine that first day. Good Luck

Wow that was a really quick reply, thanks! So my problem is that I can't get my blazer back from crew outfitters til Friday at the earliest, but then I have to drive several days to Chicago and I start ioe on Tuesday so there isn't really time to get it fixed before I start. Your suggestions were great, though and I'll try it as soon as I have a few days off.

See the other problem is that being a girl, I really don't get taken seriously anyway. This uniform just looks so crazy on me. It looks like I've stolen my dad's jacket or something and it definitely does NOT give me any credibility.

I'm not a big fan of those sweaters but I can at least get my hands on one before Tuesday. Is that a viable option?

INHO, if the jacket doesn't fit, send it back. In the mean time wear the best combination of what you have that fits. Most of my class was in IOE (and is some cases on line) before we had a full uniform. No one should fault you for a mistake the uniform company makes.

As long as your company approves wearing the uniform sweaters I dont see why not, especially since its winter time. Like the post above said alot of times people don't even get all of their uniform items before they start IOE, so if someone says something just say that it wasnt issued in time in order to be fitted. If I were you I'd just wear the sweater and then bring the blazer along just in case a huge issue was made. The sweaters at least look alot better on girls than the guys. Some of the female pilots I see look pretty cute in those sweaters anyway compared to the blazers LOL;) Good luck with IOE, and as long as you act like a professional wich I'm sure you do everyone will take you as serious as any guy. One of the best FO's I had at my last corp. job was a girl, would rather have her in my cockpit than any of the other guys we had.
Def. try Mens wharehouse to get everything fitted right when you have a chance, every store has a true tailor there that knows the trade inside and out, and will def. have you looking good when there done. Even If I buy a suit from another store I take it there to be tailored, most places just have someone in the back with a sowing machine that knows pretty much only how to hem pants, its a true trade in order to be able to make a jacket look custom.

The FO infront of me in the security line in FAT takes off his army boots and he had dirty white soccer socks! awesome!!!! :rolleyes:
