Preflight in the rain
Ok i know this is a stupid question. But... if it's raining outside do you guys bring an umbrella for the pre flight? I can just imagine have to sit up in the airplane soaking wet...
I'm just not sure if the airport will allow it on the ramp for fear of getting blown away or what.

ROFL!!!!!! I just had visions of a pilot in his dinner jacket and cap, leisurely strolling around the airplane beneath the cover of a large, colorful umbrella during a downpour while singing "Raindrops keep fallin' on my head...."
Just get out there and do it. Only takes a minute or two. And take your overcoat or spiffy leather jacket with you.
I've never seen an umbrella on the ramp being held by a pilot.

Make the captain do it. Or if that fails...the flight attendant. Or just have a rampie give you the thumbs up, and take his word for it.
But the raincoat does a decent job if you absolutely HAVE to get out .

It flew in, it will fly out...
all kidding aside
FA's usually have an umbrella, I just borrow theres....or I just walk quickly.
A lot of stations have umbrellas if they deplane onto the ramp, so I have grabbed one of those after the pax are inside.
Sometimes those same umbrellas can be found where we hang our jackets in the RJ.

one old time pilot told me before i even became an airline pilot to always carry two things in my flight kit: ear plugs and an umbrella. so i got a nice small black umbrella that takes up the same space as my flashlight, and i always wear earplugs. i used the umbrella many times as an fo. kept me fairly dry, depending on the wind, and i never had any problems.
