Im a rampie, ticketie, opsie, baggage serviceie, and gatie at AE and Im trying to work my way DOWN the payscale latter and maybe fly with AE. I never thought I would be able to find a job that I would love and have to take a pay cut from AE to work for AE. Does that make sence????

Of course it does- Your going to have a much better career flying than throwing bags- Everything comes in strides in thiss buissness.
You can now fly untill your 65 , that is if you want to , Im going to be outta this buisness at 60 at the latest. Will you be able to throw bags that long?

Whoaa guys calm down....

I'm not trying to be negative or spread doom and gloom, but I see how my initial post could have been misinterpreted so I'll clarify.

I was thinking about the guy/gal who is "lucky" enough to get hired this year since there will not be as much hiring in 2008.
Also be ready for extended reserve time before holding a line.

Having said that, I also wanted people to know that as a new-hire on reserve you don't really fly much.

So if you get an opportunity to fly for a regional this year, don't expect to fly much and make sure you think about how the slow accumulation of hours could affect your career goals especially if you get hired at very low-time.

And yes, I know there's more to getting a good job than just hours flown.

Right now at the regional I fly with I've flown 165 hours. By the end of my first year I will probably have flown 250.

I barely broke 1000 hours total time last month after getting hired on with just 900 hours 8 months ago.

This thread was only aimed at letting people with low time know that it's not a bad idea to stick it out for a while, save a little more money, not commute and consider instructing in 2008 until things get better.

If you find a company with no reserve time, or one that flies you to death, then more power to you.

Take all this for what it's worth to you.

I apologize for the poor presentation...

FO reserves at most S5 domiciles are flying over 60 hours a month.....some over 80. Personally I will log right at 70 with credit for nearly 87.

The FO's(reserve) at AE are flying 55-65, however, there are tons of extra bours to pick up. I know one guy that is getting upwards of 98.

Crucero: Might I ask what Regional you fly for?

Leave flying to the rest of us insane nuts who are crazy enough to hang on, enjoy the ride and have fun! Fly happy bros and sis's -- does wonders for your attitude! :D
