For 2008 new-hires...

Plan on flying very little this year at the regionals.
Reserve times at most companies are getting longer due to the slowdown in movement.
If you are a low time pilot that is "lucky" enough to get hired this year, ask yourself how will you feel a year from now when you only added 200 to 300 hours to your logbook, while the "unlucky" pilot that did not get hired builds time faster, probably got paid better, and slept in his/her house every night.
Just something to consider.

I was getting 100 hours each month instructing with a good amount of Multi-Engine time and good paychecks. I have flown 140 hours in the past 6 months and my pay is less than half of what I was making while instructing. I now also have to rent a crashpad away from home. I love the job, but damn I AM POOR!!!

Your objective as an FO is not to log Turbine SIC...it is to accumulate enough seniority to upgrade. You can do that equally well while flying your butt off, or sitting on your butt at the crashpad. Money is a different issue of course.

I'm confused, is the "unlucky" pilot gaining seniority too? There are plenty of other jobs where you will be home every night (oh, and sit in traffic everyday). Let's keep it positive, for heaven's sake it's "Hump Day!"

Precisely. 10,000 hrs in a Katana are only as good as 100 if you're hireable.

Why is it every time I get on here and someone is making a prediction they are all so damn negative? No one on here has a real clue as to what is going to happen. For all we know OPEC could decide to boost production and drop oil to $70 a barrel and life will be great again (probably not, but we can dream right?)....
Why dont we TRY to keep a positive attitude?
