How many PAX and what's your average no wind GS?

Also remember the 400 is 76 seats. I've seen 500+ knots with a great tail wind and Ive seen 240 with a horrible headwind.

"Average GS of 262" That is WAYYYYY low in my opinion. 262 with a 90 knot headwind maybe. Even including the climb.

That's an average ground speed over the entire leg, block to block. It includes time sitting and taxing. So that's why it's "low".

The Bro has an average GS of well over 300 kts. I've seen 412 kts but with a strong tailwind.

As for the EMB's economics. Usually, with 30 PAX on a 300 mile FLT it will equate to an average gallon usage per passenger of around 4. That's about 4 gallons of fuel per passenger to move them around 300 miles with an average hourly fuel burn of around 800 lbs per hour.

800/6.7= 119.4 lbs / 30 PAX = 3.98 gallons (numbers vary based up conditions)

Skywest's numbers for the EMB:

620 lbs/hr, 173 knots, 180 mile average stage length

Keep in mind this is AVERAGE over the entire leg, so when you are holding short doing 0 knots the clock is still ticking. In addition, the short hops will negatively effect those numbers. For example LAX-CRQ :27 75 miles = 166 GS. Where as a longer flight would be able to increase that.

BTW, the only 121 T-prop that can out run the Bro here in the states is the Q400. Yes the Saab 2000 and the Do328 Prop can but they aren’t operating 121 here (I believe there are a few operating corporate but that's about it). The Q1/2/3, Saab 340 and the B1900 are all slower.

But as an RJ CA once pointed out: “That’s like trying to find out who’s the fastest retarded kid at the Special Olympics.”

Don’t agree but it kind of makes sense even though the comment is wrong on many levels.

Exactly, that's 210 knots average, and that's a long flight (400 nm). Now average that with the short legs and that's how the average for the fleet is around 173 knots.

So how exactly is the Q3 faster than the Bro? You’re saying it does 262 kts but we blow by them every time unless ATC tries to strict us.

Look at the stage length. It's almost double what it is in the EMB. That means higher time at cruise speeds, less time (relative to flight time) at 0 knots holding short, climbing, etc.

K, I guess it makes since seeing we operate a lot out of LAX and SFO.

Any way you cut it T-Props aren't going anywhere, they're just way to efficient.

Yep, that would be my guess. I don't know what the delays are like for Horizon but my guess would be pretty minimal.
