I was told after interviewing that they are not assigning anymore start dates. Was further told that I would probably be placed in a pool.

anbody know how the "pool" works? They pumped my hand and everything, but really couldn't tell me much else, althought they seemed sincere in thinking I'd be given a class date in the not too distant future. Are you still competitive within in the pool i.e. more qualified pilots first, or is it by the date of successful interview?

Jenny called me today to say she was sorry that they where so late in sending my new-hire packet.
I asked her when they where going to run the next class and she told me that she had no idea when they would begin again, and that she hears something different about it everyday.
My class on the 31st is going to be the smallest group they have had with only 10 people. I was really looking forward to some other classes starting after mine to at least give me a lil seniority:o. So much for hiring 500 pilots this year:(.

I've been here at ASA and in the airline industry for all of 5-6 weeks and am no expert. I hope I'm never an expert.

I don't want to get sucked into the endless worrying, anticipating, expecting, rumor-mongering, speculating, guessing and just general angst that seems to go along with trying to figure out how it's all going to work out.

All of that, and you're wrong most of the time anyway.

Come to class. Study. Apply yourself. Take the step that's in front of you right now.

The history of airlines since deregulation has been seniority lists that start and stop and move rapidly or not at all and everything in between.

None of that's changed now that it's me on their conveyor belt.

I'm right there with you at the bottom of a seniority list in a volatile industry at an uncertain time <shrug>. So, I'm going to show up each day and do what's in front of me as well as I can and stay focused on how great it is to be where I am!

I'm glad you made it into the 3/31 class! They do a good job with the training, this is a really positive company to work for, Atlanta is a great city to be in...life is good!

Let me know if you need anything leading up to class, I've got a pretty good little collection of study materials collected here.

and they said it was management's decision.
I know it's difficult and blow to your confidence and everything, I've been there.

Will you follow up on this in a few months and let us know how it worked out? I'm going to predict that you shake this off and wind up at a much better job for you.

Really in all honesty I'm not worried. I'm gonna come to class with none of whats going on in the buisness in my mind at all. Is there anything I should be studying prior to showing up? Anything you wish you would have studied or prepared for prior to class?

You'll have to make an effort not to get pulled into it by others.

I've made a decision to just ignore all the crap I don't have any control over anyway...makes it much easier to have a tension free day.

Anything you wish you would have studied or prepared for prior to class?
Nope. They give you absolutely everything you need to succeed and make it easy. Just come ready to work hard and you'll be fine.

Let me know when you get your training hotel info, I'll look forward to seeing you here in a few weeks!

Welcome to my hell at XJT. I started class in early September and I'm still ~40 from the bottom...

I wouldn't worry about being at the bottom of the list. This whole slow down seems more like a stagnation rather than a complete reduction/furlough period. I'd be willing to bet that your job is safe for now (unless something else happens). The only thing to worry about is QOL. People hired behind you doesn't help QOL at all. Its all about people in front of you leaving and we still have upgrades to the 700 and attrition happening. Things will pick up again soon, even if at a slower rate.

copurnikus 03-20-2008 08:47 PM

John, you've got the right attitude. My sentiments exactly. Now if I could just get that class date....

Flitestar 03-21-2008 04:31 AM

Does anybody know what the criteria will be when its time take pilots out of the pool?
