Just curious guys. I flew with this CFI the guy had 2000 plus hours and 200 multi. During the crazy hiring boom we had over the year not Comair, Mesa, TSA, XJT,AWAC, CHQ, Piedmont, or anybody would respond to his application. Yes I know even Mesa. The only thing hes lacking is that he doesn't have a College degree. But that still sounds fishy to me. I tried to help him out and thought Mesa would have called him back but no.
Maybe hes not telling me the full story? To this day hes still sitting there miserable instructing as everyone else has long moved on.

My issue is trying to decide whether to leave a potentially good 135 company, or get a spot at RAH. I have held out for a couple of months to get to the top regional in case something like this would happen (slowdown), in order to weather the storm at a respectable and hopefully comfortable regional. So in that respect im not going to go to mesa or any other low time regional, no offense.
So I can either stay at my current company or try my luck with the regional game, the problem is potential can only go so far.

Don't ask me why but have the bug to apply to the regionals would like to be based (eventually) in DTW (current home 20 min away).
Stats are : Age 50 6410TT/4110ME (all pic)/ Former airnet. ATP/CFII/ME
Before you ask, yes to financially secure not bothered by low pay, no debts what so ever/wife supports big time etc. Excellent physical etc. My eyes are wide open not wide-shut.
Currently self organizing my own ground study course for all subjects anticipated by the gouges etc. Honestly what are my chances? I am looking at XJ and 9E. Should I look at others? I want a good one I can stay at 10 years.
Are there any other pilots in the DTW area interested in a study partner?
Thanks for your time

XJ is a great regional but with their current situation they have completely slowed to stopped hiring and are not planning on having classes for a while as well as have asked for voluntary leave of absences from some employees.
9E...there is a two page thread going right now on why it stinks there. I do not work there and know nothing about them besides the thread I just read but like every other regional in the universe, some are happy there, some are not.
As far as hiring is concerned you probably have a better chance with 9E if those are your only two choices.
Id suggest opening another thread in the regional forums asking for some advice for some more exposure from pilots who work at either airline. I do not work for either but have respect for both of the pilot groups and would go to either one myself.

I was supposed to take my commercial ride 3 days after 9/11 happened. I was attending a school where instructors were leaving with wet tickets to go fly for a regional, and then as we all know all that stopped, and they were headed back to instructing. I know some may think this is a corny thing to say but , everything happens for a reason. If things wouldnt have hapened the way they did I would have gone to a regional almost right away and would have missed out on one of the best flying jobs ever, flying a Corp. Jet for a Pvt. family. I had a great time working for them and would still be flying "vacation" trips with them to this day if they would'nt have sold the airplane. The new owners and the other pilots that they hired made me hate Corp. aviation and now I'm back to the 121 game. Moral of the story is that sometimes we get bummed because things don't work out the way we think they should at that particular time, but in the long run everything works out. For all of you that have some what missed this past hiring wave, brush it off continue flying and trust me your chance will come. Remember everyone, people in this country have to fly, first of all they are addicted to it, and second its still cheaper to fly even if we raise ticet prices than it is to drive somewhere long distance. Relax and have fun your time will come soon enough.
Good luck and keep your heads up.
