That's life
Maybe I'm crazy, but I don't think I'm the only one. I'm tired of everyone whining about this and that...."Skywest sucks, Alpa rules, RJ's are Satan's gift to aviation, everyone go on strike to boycott oil prices, whatever. Listen, from my perspective (again, maybe it's only me) we are all in this crapper of a time together. Time has shown that the economy will go up and down, jobs and fortunes will be created, lost and transferred. That's life. Let's do our jobs with professionalism and dignity. Things will get better (but the best advice I ever got was to get an education and make sure to have a skill to do besides flying). I'll shut up now.

Encore!! Encore!!

THAT is the best post I've read in a long time.

Great post! I with you on that!

That's the attitude that keeps things on the march down. Pay, bennefits and everything else that is supposed to come with this industry have been slowly eroding for decades.
What all of you new guys need to realize is that there's more to it than just being happy to have a job. Ask your captains about what they had to do to get where they are. Take a look at the payscales. It's much easier to lower the standards than it is to raise pay. Many have given a ton in recent years with a promise from management that the concessions would be returned once the hard times were over. Now the same management is crying about fuel and stuffing their pockets. F-28 captains at Piedmont in 1986 were making $130 an hour plus. Not bad for a 56 seat jet. Think about that. Complaining on here doesn't mean that I don't go to work with my uniform pressed, and my shoes shined. If anything, demanding more shows the respect I have for this profession. I have a job to do, but I refuse to sit around and wait for it to get better. |
While I can't disagree with your post, keep in mind this forum is full of bored pilots with nothing better to do!

Others, please follow suit that a post does not need language other than PG-13 to get your point across and 9 times out of 10 it ends up deleted. I dont mind a good curse word as much as the next guy but this is a professional site and as such we should act and speak (type) accordingly. |
I think the guy's post is completely legit. I gave up a 6-figure job to go back to regional flying, how jacked up is that decision? Yes, it could be a lot better but you take the good with the bad for a love of flying. Yes, I wish I made more money. Yes, I wish working conditions were better. But I made the decision and I have to live with it. And I have no regrets. And thank you, keep it clean.

I'm sure that he is not saying that he doesn't want things to get better. I think that this post is more relating to the fact that instead of finding constructive ways to handle issues, we just get on here and make comments about other people's choice of airlines, whether or not they are union, and how that's great/sucks. Even some comments on people's possible evolutionary backgrounds... Basically instead of helping each other a lot of people get on here to hurl insults at others behind the relative safety of their respective keyboards.

Voila! We're in it together. I believe that things should be better than they are, I'm cautiously optimistic that they will get better, too. I also believe that we are sometimes alarmingly similar to how I see the politicians....Right or left, republican or democrat, liberal or conservative---instead of Americans. We need to find common ground and not focus on our differences, but focus on the significantly larger number of similarities we all share (we're pilots, we go up and down, try to put food on the table and support our families, and enjoy life). We all do that whether we're alpa, apa, teamster, non-union, black, white, yellow, whatever. Sorry about the earlier reference to a female dog, by the way.. OK, I'll shut up again.
