This is a good thread, I'm kind of amazed we've talked about everything else, (what flight case to get a million times) but this rarely comes up. Anyway, I've had similar problems and I'm gradually getting a routine down that's similar, but I was also going to add that there are only two things we should be doing in bed: sleeping, and reading isn't the other one.

Melotonin is the natural substance that builds up in our bodies to tell it it's time to sleep. Taking it in a pill just boosts the reaction. It will not show up in a drug test. Even if it was it would just mean your tired! Just make sure it's just the supplement and not a "sleep aid" with other stuff in it.

just rub one out....puts me to sleep everytime...
seriously though, my wife is a flight doc and she wrote a paper on sleep hygiene when we were in the desert. i will look to see if i can find the paper and post it here.
we had a lot of trouble getting dudes to fall asleep and i was on the night shift so it REALLY sucked for me. I had to go to sleep at 7-8am and would wake up at 6pm for dinner and then a 1045pm show for a 0045 take off, then fly for 4.5 hours and do it all over again....ugh!!
the funny part about all of that is that she actually told one of the guys in my squadron to just rub one out, and the next day he came up to her and said, "that worked Doc!!!"
anyway, i will look for the paper....

I know this has happened to other people but, it seems to happen to me all the time. You have a trip that starts at 3pm and ends at 9pm... you get to the hotel at around 9:30-10pm for a 6am report. If your like me you're still wound up from the day and don't get to sleep for a couple hours... sometimes its 3 am before i fall sleep. How do you guys get to sleep after the day? Can we take any kind of sleeping pill as long as it is 8 hours or so before our report? They have these new pills that don't have any medication in them, just some sort of sleeping remedy. Can we take these, has anyone tried them?
