If you don't get JFK right away you will get in quick. The 70/90 are only based in cvg but do a lot of flying out of nyc. Reserve on the 50 is a year. You can bid onto the 70/90 till you've been here close to a year. Upgrades are still long.

You might get some more answers on the Comair Updates thread, but in short, we are hiring into both bases, CVG and JFK. CR7/9 are only based in CVG, but we do quite a few JFK/LGA trips. Right now, reserve is still running around 12 months or so for both bases. They are doing about 24 upgrades a month right now, with the most junior guy being hired about 5 years ago.

I am not based in JFK, but it seems like they are not flying much at all. When I was on reserve on the -200, I averaged around 50 hrs./month on reserve in CVG. Hopefully with the increase in flying for this summer, the JFK guys will be flying more. Maybe some of the JFK based guys on here can give you the low down.

JFK is slow at the time being but will hopefully pick up starting next month, especially with the projected hiring and hour increase for the summer. Commuting is possible but pretty miserable when on reserve, that goes for anywhere though. Not many ways to commute on both ends of reserve periods but there are some that have either late starts or early finishes.

I've flown 2 hours this month, but broke guarantee last month..It's off and on.

In my opinion, there are NO commutable reserve lines (same day stuff)..you're either going to come in a day early, or leave the day after your window ends most of the time.

Not sure how the summer hours will affect the reservists yet. As far as the schedule itself it really is sporadic. Minimum 11 days off with a block of 4 and a block of 3, the rest can be scattered anywhere. Sometimes only 1 off which makes it hard if you commute, it's not uncommon to spend a week or 2 without going home.

You can bid for specific days off/on. You get 11 days off/month on reserve. You get 7 'hard' days off, which cannot be moved by the company, and 4 'soft' days off, which can be moved by the company. Then you bid on your reserve window. Whether it's short call (1.5 hr. callout/2 hrs. for JFK) or Long Call (9 hr or 12 hr. callout).

The reserve system here isn't the greatest...
