Default ASA Long Call Reserve Question

Got awarded a long call reserve line for June and I was wondering if anyone out there at ASA that has been on LCRS could say if it was better than SCR. We all know reserve isn't the best but in perspective did anyone find long call more livable than short call. Being on call for 24 hours a day did you ever get called at say 2 in the morning for an assignment the next day? How many times did they give you a 12 hour call out? Just curious as what to expect. Thanks for your help.

I was able to hold it after a year of employment. The 700 hundred is a bit senior but it seems that you start to have a say in your GDOs after about 9 months. Before that it's almost pointless to even bid.

I think its a pretty good deal.. You don't have to rush off to the airport. When called you have 12 hours at a minimum. I have never been called past 10:30. Most of the time I knew the call was coming because I saw it on my schedule. On your last day off if you have not been called then you pretty much know you won't be working.

Now for the bad.. They can and will change you to SCR for 7 days.. Its like clockwork, they do it because they can.

Afterburn, how long does it take to hold a line on the 700?

He's not joking, they will change the last 7 days of reserve to scr every month even if they had 3000 reserve pilots and Brad Hold was on call me first pref. What is frustrating is that they don't honor your time pref, they just change it to whatever their evil hearts desire.

How about short call? What is life like? How often do you get called two hours out and have to rush to the airport? I am about to start IOE on the 700 and would like to know what to expect.

Im on the ATR... Short call isnt too bad. You will actually fly less on SCR then LCR. Its just nice to know well in advance.. They will ask you if you will need the full 2 hours.... I always say yes... Then again, its only happened twice in 4 months..

Life on reserve is nice if you live here and enjoy time off. You won't fly a lot which is nice.

I can only speak for the ATR, so this might be useless to you: on the ATR, LCRS pilots have been flying way less. I mean way, way less than the SCR guys. I'm junior to a guy with LCRS and he flew 7 hours in May, I flew about 30. SCR + I'm call me first. I did ask scheduling if that was the norm on the RJ. They said no. Apparently on LCRS they fly more and typically get trips assigned days in advance anyways. Just heck your etrip every few hours.

So that's what I've heard. Either way, try it out for a month. If it sucks, don't do it the following month.

I've been here 10 mo. and I am just able to hold a line in June. Surprised you got a line on the 700 after just a year. That's cool.
