I believe he retired, but Roger from Chicago center was the best.
On a side note.....I used to love talking to the MSP center guys in the middle of the night durning my cargo days. Great group of folks up there! |
There was (is still) a KJFK local controller that responded to a pilots '(call sign) request' with:
"(callsign) has a request, well, as long as it not a show tune, go ahead." Professional, yet doesn't take him/herself too seriously... |
Ah, Franklin. I miss him...
"Colgan 5024, Cleared to Norfolk, LaGardia (sic) Niner Departure witha Whitestone Climb..." No one has mentioned IAH, yet. IAH Tower...we had Happy Richard. No matter how bad a day it was, he was always in a good mood and always made you smile. I think he just retired a few months ago. Great guy. IAH Approach...Axe! Everybody that's ever flown in and out of IAH has had to have talked to Axe. You'd know him better as the Jetlincoln guy. He had the greatest phrases, such as: Pencil Jet (E145) Bent-Wing Pencil Jet (E145XR) Hoover (737) Super Hoover (737-800) Super Dooper Hoover (737-900) He always told you to go fast no matter where you were coming in from. He'd keep your speed above 300 as long as he could. He could move some airplanes. He retired about a year or so ago. My favorite memory of him was coming in from AEX very early in the morning, like before 6 or so. It was still dark and there were very few airplanes in the sky. Axe was working all sectors. I heard him talking to someone else as we got the handoff, so I checked in as "Jetlincoln 2XXX..." He always seemed to like it. Southwest checked on climbing out of HOU. His response was, "Southwest 902, Houston Departure, good morning. Proceed direct Whatchu Talkin' 'Bout." Southwest keyed the mike but didn't say anything. A few seconds later they queried the fix name. Axe responded with, "Southwest 902, cleared direct Whatchu Talkin' 'Bout WLLIS." Next thing you hear is..."Oh! Ah...Huh huh. Direct WLLIS, 902. That was funny." He responded with, "I know." |

We all have them. Who and where is that controller that makes you grin as you are grinding through the day?
In Denver ARTCC we have the Seeyaaa guy and TRACON has good morning/good night. My favorite is the APP/DEP controller who sounds like Mr. Mackey, heading two-five-zeeeeroooo (insert mkay). Zero personality until you give him Toodles as you are signing off and he responds with an equally flat...Toodle-loo. Flown into Denver and had the Seeeya guy while on a XC in UPT. As other guys would get handed off they would give their Seeyah's back to him and he seemed to enjoy it. My IP said I had to make it sound cool when it was our turn to get handed off. Sure enough we get handed off and I just totally butcher it. He said nice one and have a good day. It was comicical in the jet..definitely thought about my radio call a little bit too hard that day! That guy really seems to enjoy his job though. |

Great thread idea,
There is a lady in STL APP/DEP that always has an amazing and chipper voice no matter what time of day. I love hearing her voice. I think some of the STL pilots are a little too obsessed with her! Love the guys in ORD Tower. Those guys are crazy. |
The see ya guy in ATL.

Yea...she sounds hot.........! Always wanted to go up there and see her but then again I don't want to reck the image I have of her in my mind if she turns out to be..........? The lady on ramp sounds like she has to smoke at least a carton of smokes a day and is in her early hundreds.
