Your Favorite Controller

We all have them. Who and where is that controller that makes you grin as you are grinding through the day?

In Denver ARTCC we have the Seeyaaa guy and TRACON has good morning/good night. My favorite is the APP/DEP controller who sounds like Mr. Mackey, heading two-five-zeeeeroooo (insert mkay). Zero personality until you give him Toodles as you are signing off and he responds with an equally flat...Toodle-loo.

atlmsl 06-16-2008 11:12 PM

It's gotta be Mr. Whistle in the ATL tower. Always makes me think "hey chris.. where's my newspaper?" from Family Guy.

saabguy493 06-16-2008 11:38 PM

Clearance delivery guy at LGA!!! Anyone who has ever talked to him knows what I mean.

Bascuela 06-17-2008 12:52 AM

yeah man, Seeyaaaa!!!!!!! dude is pretty good.

Yeah he definitely likes his job way too much.

But we're all forgetting the obvious answer.

What about "Boston John"

Mocha Hagtdi!

The Whistler.....love him!

Merky 06-17-2008 02:25 AM

A great lady that works Houston Center in the wee hours of the morning. I could listen to her for hours...

Doug Masters 06-17-2008 02:54 AM

I miss Buzz....ATL's finest.

FlyerJosh 06-17-2008 03:46 AM

There's an approach controller in RDU that must have been disciplined for saying "nine" improperly... now every transmission with that number includes "nine.....eeeeerrrrrrrrrrr." Worth a smile.

My all time favorite is/was Clyde the IAD ramp tower controller. Good sense of humor, and a nice guy.

CubCAPTAIN 06-17-2008 04:28 AM

I like the weird LGA clearance delivery guy. The one who asks you to confirm the ATIS ten times. You know who I mean

aa173130 06-17-2008 04:33 AM

Hands Down... got to be the guy in CLT Tower... Maybe Dennis???
He sounds like a deep south preacher with the GGOOOOOoood Daaaayyyaaaa!

I believe he's an auctioneer on the side...

good Stuff...

ce650 06-17-2008 04:59 AM

I believe he retired, but Roger from Chicago center was the best.

Atwoo155 06-17-2008 05:06 AM

CLT has its own SEEEEEEYAAA guy.
Tri-cities tower has a few guys that are great. Tri-cities tower had an ASA crew convinced that the bristol motor speedway was a large high school football staduim.

skihigh2002 06-17-2008 06:28 AM

Great thread idea,

There is a lady in STL APP/DEP that always has an amazing and chipper voice no matter what time of day. I love hearing her voice. I think some of the STL pilots are a little too obsessed with her!

Love the guys in ORD Tower. Those guys are crazy.

coldpilot 06-17-2008 06:48 AM

Chuck at GFK tower. Hands down. Close second is the clearance delivery guy in MRY.

Concur. He was amazing to work with.

KingAirPIC 06-17-2008 07:59 AM

PDX Approach guy who says Hello at your first call. Don't know if he's any better but I do remember him.

matlok 06-17-2008 08:07 AM

DFW Approach guy who hands off with "Merry Christmas" to everyone year-round.

G-Dog 06-17-2008 08:10 AM

On MIA approach, there is a guy that talks like a robot. No matter how crazy the freq. gets, he remains cool and never changes his voice. Not like some controller who start talking louder and faster when the space get tight.

andy171773 06-17-2008 08:11 AM

Boston John is my favorite "hasta la vistaaaaaa" "jet blueeeeeeeeeeeee"

but i also miss Arnie from JFK (i think that was his name) of "follow the embraer?" fame..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUWyR9rTI9E

I think he quit/retired..i haven't heard him in about 9 months (i'm based in JFK)

Any of you Airways Express guys enjoy listening to Captain Ramp Control in Philly??

"3629....coming out of 29....COMMENCE a left turn....take it to the outer, soutbound on juliet spot 11 and contact ramp #2 130.57, stay with me till spot 12, if ramp cant take out out there commence a 180 northbound on juliet and call me back at spot 13....good day to you and your crew."

I make it a habit of repeating everything he says verbatim...give me a chuckle.

Whoever mentioned LGA Clearance was spot on too....that guy must have been a drama major in school....very theatrical

This is why you dont **** off NY Controllers...hahaha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul7Yg5PmUZA

Big Foot 06-17-2008 08:49 AM

"Good Flight, Great Day" guy in JFK Tower

TristarJS30 06-17-2008 09:02 AM

The Good Flight, Great Day guy also has a funny way he says "Cleared for Takeoff". It almost sounds like he's saying "Cleared for the take-off" with 'the' being spoken very fast.

If you've heard it, you know what I'm trying to say...

POPA 06-17-2008 09:06 AM

Ramp controller/ops guy on the C gates in St Louis.
When you call with your on/in times, you always get "Welcome back, nice job!"

Don't forget when he's busy..."Piedmont 4274, thank you, cleared to push foxtrot 12, reference traffic pushing foxtrot 8 BREAK Wisconsin 3760, from your present position, south on Juliet, hold short of Golf, spot 12, ground 121.9"

If it's who I think, she's married to a Continental guy. She's cute, too.

Married to a St. Louis pilot even.

The CLRNC DEL guy at LGA is named Franklin. From what I understand, he's over 60 years old and not qualified for any other positions.

There's a controller at JAX Center who has a signature signoff line that starts to get on my nerves after hearing it several times....she always says "Have a nice rest of the day!"

steveo1kinevo 06-17-2008 11:00 AM

MUGM Tower! Always friendly and pleasent to talk with.

We had a CLRNC guy here at SLC that had a super thick Arkansas accent, and talked at 2 miles an hour.

Only certified on CLRNC. Haven't heard him in a while, replaced with new hire ATC types that clear you to Lima Alpha Xray airport.

withthatsaid182 06-17-2008 12:08 PM

up in maine/nh...portland approach has the nicest controllers...they have no traffic to really deal with so they're really pleasant no matter what time of day...

at hartford-brainard in ct there was this guy named john who was a retired center controller...he was hilarious...never had a problem asking someone what the hell they were doing. i instructed there for a while and met him a few times up in the tower and the resturant so i could always get whatever i asked for...and if my student screwed up i just chimed in and it was okay...

jban642 06-17-2008 12:13 PM

I think it been mentioned already but Boston john.

I always got a chuckle every time I heared him:)

He always reminded me of Yertle the Turtle

groovinaviator 06-17-2008 12:42 PM

Ground Controller in PHL...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2z0ZwI4bwE

There is also a guy on Potomac approach or Wash center that sounds just like Cleveland from Family Guy. I here him most often early mornings headed north out of ORF.

Colnago 06-17-2008 12:44 PM

There's a guy in our GFK control tower. He records ATIS and issues instructions with an auctioneer tone. I love it!

I just say "roger" and just laugh while I say it. Most of the F-gate ramp controllers take their job waaaay too seriously. I prefer the sweet talking girl on tower.

Off subject, but Captain Ramp Control and Donald the lav-service guy must be friends.

cfii2007 06-17-2008 01:32 PM

My favorite controllers are the ones that yell the least........
