I know the NYC area is crazy but is the media being overly dramatic or is it really that crazy up there in NYC?

All is well. The agency (FAA) earlier in the week said there was no problem when the first two tried to share paint jobs. I'm sure the same is true here. Just ask 'em.
Don't expect to hear anything else until the body bags are needed, and lots of 'em. For an agency created by a mid-air collision in 1956, would you expect anything less ?
Since I'm a recovering from my agency affiliation, I've got to figure out some club like ex-Mesa folks have (LAMA). LAFAA ?

Everybody knows that the FAA is a reactive agency. And that the amount of reaction is related to the fatalities/injuries caused by an incident. Just look at the history of the FAA and most of their actions are reactionary to incidents that have fatal results. But thats what happens when you have the same agency with executive and judicial power.

I saw the head of NATCA on the news the other day after the first 'incident', basically bashing the FAA for downplaying the whole thing. I'm sure they were both tense moments, but (one would hope) we all know what we're doing and are keeping alert in these situations, especially in such congested airspace. And I'm sure the news hyped it up too, (not that they would ever do such a thing...)

Every airport we fly into has issues like this. DCA when landing 33 and there is departing traffic on 01. PHL landing on 35 when others are landing on 27R. LGA landing 22, departing 13. The list goes on and on. A G/A on any of these at an inopportune time can mean a few seconds of pucker factor. Why tunnel vision isn't a good thing and being aware of what the other traffic is doing is critical.
