Great Skywest Jumpseat
#21
The jumpseat issues at Skywest have been going on for years. It's a battle that the jumpseat coordinator has been in for a long time. Unfortunately, I don't work there anymore so I can't contact the Skywest jumpseat coord. The problems are only with Skywest agents... SLC is the worst followed by SFO and LAX. They want to be in 100% control of who walks out to the plane. It's up to the crews to get their butts out of the cockpit and walk inside to see who's there. Nothing will change until flights start getting delayed.

I agree.
I sat in the actual JS of a skywest 90 yesterday and the actual of a 50 today.
Both crews were super nice.
But the 57 crew I was with were the funniest guys I've ever seen fly. It was entertaining for sure!

I commute out of SLC and ride skywest all the time. I have never been treated with anything but respect and kind words. You want to talk about nasty try the AA, AE gate agents in ORD, I wanted to knock a couple dozen of them upside the head more the once!

I'm betting SLC too, they are pretty much the worst. Both ops and the gate agents think they own the jumpseat. Had it one time where I knew a jumpseater was waiting, called ops to tell them to come down, and they said that we are not accommodating jumpseaters today (mind you, we were still 10 minutes early at this point)
Well, we basically told them that we were not accommodating brake release until jumpseaters are once again accomodated. Turned into a standoff, delayed the flight quite a while. Eventually the chief got involved, and low and behold the jumpseater came and off we went, over a half hour late. It was pretty ridiculous.

If you are treated poorly by an agent, or denied due to "W&B", or anything other than the captain telling you "sorry"..........file a complaint with your company JSC. It WILL get to the proper channels, and WILL get addressed. Posting on here is a great way to vent, but will not accomplish too much more than that.

Yeah, I think pretty much flights have to be delayed in order to get CS to change their ways on how they handle jumpseats. We were fortunate to have the support of the MOD at the time this standoff occurred. He could have just as easily told us to go, and then we really have no choice but to leave the jumpseater at the gate. I always file the complaint with our JSC as well, he is very well aware of the problems in SLC. Hopefully through dilligence we can get attitudes changed and solve this problem once and for all.
