Valid points, but I'm guessing you don't look at too many pilots from (insert "major leaguers") airlines here.

You know, the guys with the nine month belly and the shirt that has to be made out of a sail and hangs over a belt that is too tight. Also, the shirt needs to be ironed AND washed.

As well as hearing his hat like Ralph Kramden.

Can't disagree with the original post, but,the way people come dressed to fly has certainly degraded. I don't think they care if the crew looks polished or not. Everyone is more casual. Capt's have an excuse because we have a reputation to be cheap that must be maintained <g>. F/O's aren't paid enough. Company wants sharp?, then they should buy the whole uniform for their employees like Burger King did for me when I was a kid in HS. <bg>

I love the old really fat guys with basically yellow pilot shirts..............I mean jesus spend the $30 and go buy a shirt. I too believe in looking as professional as I can, but thats just because I want to be appealing to the opposite sex

Same story for ' professional ' captains on overnights who go out with black socks and sandals with a dress shirt tucked in....The direct opposite to Captain 'Happy Hour'

I realize I jumped in this thread a little late, but just wanted to say... Every single day I go to work, I do everything I can to look my best. I've spent my entire life trying to get to this position, I want to look good doing it. In addition to that, we fly for a living. We are representatives of our company to the traveling public. Pilots/FAs are the most visible employees of the airline. When you accepted the job, you knew the dress requirements. Why walk around meeting the dress code by the bare minimum? Take some pride in your job and try to look professional!

Bingo.....

Now for the other side, stop blaming the airlines and the pay for your appearance. Also, you never know when you'll meet your next employer.
