Remaining E135 aircraft will leave the fleet in September

We have agreed with Republic Airways Holdings, operator of Delta Connection carrier Chautauqua Airlines, to remove the final 11 E135 aircraft from service effective Sept. 30. The 37-seat planes originally were to be removed at a rate of two per month between November and April of next year. The planes are flown on routes out of our Cincinnati hub.

The move supports our objective to reduce fuel inefficient flying sooner that originally scheduled. The E135 cuts are part of our announced 13% domestic capacity reduction for this year.

This is was already known. just happening much sooner than expected.

This is pretty old news...guess it is official but it seems like this has been known for awhile. Interesting to note that they will be bringing 2 170s on for the spring/summer 09

Yeah bummer guys...How many 140/145s do you fly for Delta? I've been seeing a Delta Connection EMB-145 in IAH lately with RP on the end.

So if he's really that concerned with people being furloughed, then why would he voluntarily accelerate the removal of these airplanes. I know the 135s aren't as efficient as their big brothers, but I don't think Delta & CHQ are losing that much money on them. It just frustrates me thinking that maybe, just maybe, I wouldn't be furloughed had they stuck with the original removal plan. (I am one of the more senior FOs being furloughed)

He's concerned with the bottom line. I'm sure he'd rather not furlough since that is going to be expensive and a PITA training wise, but he'll do it without a second thought to protect the CPAs.

could have been a behind closed doors meeting with Delta that went similar to XJT's.

delta: "we will cancel the CPA and are willing to fight this out in court"
xjt/chq: "not worth the expense for something gone in less then a year anyway"


I have no proof but i have a feeling it went something like that. Be thankful your company didnt fight a costly court battle

I think it went more along the lines of: Hey Bedford, we want these things gone soon. bb: sure, don't want these smaller RJs anymore anyway. DL: How about we cut 'em this fall. BB: Ok, but what is my incentive to end this contract early? You want to buy it out, or would you like some of these new toys I have on order in Brazil? DL: Not so sure. we would rather our RJ passengers fly on CRJs

DL: 30! We'll take 30 195's! Just give us a few weeks to talk to our unions!
BB: That's what I thought. We'll have those 135's gone by October.

You can pretty much blame Freedom/Mesa for that one. Delta has give Freedom all the flying back that they have cancelled out of JFK and MCO. And since MCO is closed now, Delta had to give some of the flying out of CVG to Freedom. That’s why you guys are losing the flying sooner than what was planed. I hope none of you get furloughed because of this. It’s always the bottom feeder that screws the test of us. Good luck to all.

It certainly didnt help matters any.... but they were slated to go ... now sooner than the later that was expected.
