I ran across an ad looking for Regional F/O's a couple days back on Will Fly For Food. I didn't think Skywest was hiring right now??
Anyone have any insight or does that ad just pop up on a random basis?

They might be interviewing for the pool, but I don't think we're doing classes right now.

No, SkyWest is not hiring. Their web site says they are which probably only means you can fill out the application. I don't even think they are interviewing right now. There are about 60-80 pilots in a pool and some have been there since about March waiting for a CRJ class. They had 3 classes scheduled in July and all three were cancelled (one was 4 days before it started) and dumped those pilots back in the pool.
So, if you are interested, fill out the application but don't expect an interview until next year and if, and that is a big if, they start hiring you probably won't see ground school until the end of summer, at the soonest.
When Midwest Air cut back their flying by 40% it affected SkyWest. They did pick up some more flying with United but they are still overstaffed. In order for them to start hiring again they need new contracts or the majors to start hiring again.
If you are at a regional that is about to furlough, or at one that is struggling, it would be worth it to fill out the application but it will probably be a while before you hear back.

I'm currently in the CRJ pool, just trying to plan my future options when I end up going part-time next year

So got an update email from SkyWest today. It looks like there is about 120 still in the pool from the amount of email addresses and if it's in order hopefully I'm in the top 40. Looks like attrition is steady at 20 a month still and with the arrival of the 700's starting in Dec. just maybe things will be picking up early next year. Really hoping this works out cause I'm tired of hanging on to my current job and really looking forward to SKW. I'd be tempted to take the Brasilia to start sooner but I think I would go to the bottom of the pool list on that plus I'd really prefer to stay on the East coast, we'll see though.

In other words, attrition is not holding steady, it is decreasing and probably fluctuating between 10-15 per month with some dipping below 10.
As for the CR7's, that's not going to be enough to start running RJ classes. Plus when they do the classes will be full of transitioning EMB FO's with any new hire classes being EMB. My prediction is that there won't be a new hire RJ class until 2Q of 09.
Good Luck.

Negative my friend, attrition is not steady at 20 per month. My friend started class in Nov. 07 at # 2800 and is now 2653. That's 147 spots in 9.5 months or 15.4 per month. As for me, I actually fell back 2 spots over the last 3 weeks and have only moved up 32 spots since May. That's 32/4=8 per month. So that means that most of our attrition is on the FO side.
