The TAT is just where they hung their bag full of confiscated material, 40s of refreshment, bonus checks for staying on the job 3 weeks in a row and end of the day donuts/bagels/etc while they did an inspection looking for a way in..... No way anyone did much scalin'.

Pitot-static probes are sharp metal objects... so they had to go. As did any antennas and static dischargers... Next was the fuel. Drained to 3oz. Now you're safe for flight! A job well-done TSA!

I agree this is a moronic idea, but with that statement, you are trying to light a fire with wet matches son. LOL |

So on another note, if i'd have to guess why these guys broke pitot tubes. I'm guessing they couldn't access the aircraft through jetbridge so they decided to try from the ramp using the pitot tubes as something to try to climb up on the plane. Wonder when ppl will get fed up with this and you know damn good and well the higher ups at the TSA know whats going on and continue to ignore it . |

Of course it only took them about aheeem :rolleyes:6 years to catch up lol. |

Sorry Flyboy... it is true... here is the ABC news article for you http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=5613502&page=1 |

Tell it to these folks.... apparently this is "routine procedures" for TSA now http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=5613502&page=1 |

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=5613502&page=1 Maybe it's time they got a uniformed nation wide policy and procedure thing going and one that prevents them from out right law breaking as they did at ORD. |
Unbelievable. Completely pathetic. That same competence could very well be the new government run healthcare model.
|
Am I the only one whose really excited about clearing security tomorrow?
TSA: You're in the wrong line. Employees have to go to Lane 5. ME: I'm just trying to get to my airplane early to make sure you guys didn't use my Pitot Tube as a jungle gym. |
You know, I have always wondered how much is enough. Now I know, I should ALWAYS stop at 9. 9 beers, and now I know 9 TAT probes are enough.
I saw someone said they targeted AE planes because they felt they weren't being secured properly at night. Why did they feel this way and what makes them think that AE would be the only ones not securing well. When I first heard this I was completely speechless!! |

...can prevent takeoffs with bent AOA probes. Seriously... At least we aren't reading an NTSB report of stick shaker/pusher activation on rotation... thank goodness it was only TAT probes... but still. Kudos to the crews on thorough preflights catching the TSA damage. |
I hope this agent is held responsible for the damage. If I leave a jetbridge door open I get a fine, so does that mean if they break our planes they have to pay for repairs? I wonder what the total cost of this is going to be....9 TAT probes and flight cancellations and late flights causing misconnects. From what I can tell from the ORD delay report alot of flights were delayed that didn't have broken probes because they were being inspected to be sure.
PS Sorry if I used bad grammer/spelling.....been up over 36hrs. Oh, if I don't get my bonus check this month because of this somebody owes me $75. |

From the article on abc.com:
Pilots were furious at the TSA misstep. "The brilliant employees used an instrument located just below the cockpit window that is critical to the operation of the onboard computers," one pilot wrote on an American Eagle internet forum. "They decided this instrument, the TAT probe, would be adequate to use as a ladder," the pilot wrote. Another pilot wrote the TSA agents, "are now doing things to our aircraft that may put our lives, and the lives of our passengers at risk." I was kind of surprised to see what was being said on another forum was quoted in the article. I guess now more than ever is a good time to keep the discussion as professional and informative, while still having a good time poking fun at TSA;), keeping in mind just who is reading these forums. As long as the media is going to be quoting some of the posts on forums like this, we might as well provide them with some quality posts to help improve the media's current reputation for their coverage of any news related to the airlines:cool: |
I think that whoever promises to get rid of the TSA will get the vote of every pilot here at APC, down with the GED morons!

Jim Campbell, Editor-In-Chief, Aero-News Network, Inc. 800-356-7767, [email protected] Our CEO makes more in one day then our F/O's do in a year. Talk about a safety issue...... |
Way to go Jim Campbell, well written! If I ever catch a member of the TSA crawling around my airplane I am calling the police (or exercising my 2nd amendment rights!).
|
Jim Campbell is a man among men. This article should be read by everyone and I mean everyone! I enjoyed refusing access to my a/c to a TSA agent who didn't have his proper ID's and I will enjoy restricting them in the future. I've also enjoyed doing what I can to correct their ignorance when they are trying to enforce rules that don't exist upon FLT crew and PAX.
Bottom line, these acts are downright criminal and need to be stopped. The overwhelming majority TSA agents are highly uneducated morons who are taking their power trip way too far. Thank you Jim! |

Why would you want Bear Arms ? ( Thank you,Thank you, I'll be here all week...) |
The real motivation for the attempted ingress:
A couple TSA agents heard about crews hiding porn in the Cockpit. They had a break and wanted to inspect the contraband. Be thankful they didn't get in. Imagine the crunchy seat covers and p@cker tracks on the yokes! |

"This was an extraordinarily dangerous incident, folks. The TSA has neither the mandate nor the knowledge to inspect any aircraft for any reason. The stupidity of this matter is nearly unbelievable... until you hear that the TSA is involved... then it becomes understandable, though still tragic. And I can not tell you how frustrating it is, to see them continue to hurt an industry that they were created to protect."
Jim Campbell is my new hero. The article he wrote is excellent and voices the real concerns that the professional piloting world has with the ridiculous TSA. I say that TSA personnel should not be allowed past the security checkpoint, that the rest of the airport should be the territory of real police with real training and experience. The TSA idiots with their Cracker Jack badges have no business on the ramp. None. If the TSA ever gets mixed up with general aviaiton I hope they start out their glorious riegn of terror by walking into props. -35 TSA agents killed in separate incidents in the first week of general aviation inpsection duty when they appraoched running aircraft... |

"hi I'm XYZ with the TSA, I'd like to board the plane for a security inspection." "Hi, I'm Capt ABC; just answer a few questions for me.... one; what type of airplane is this?; second, what training have you had in this make and type of aircraft to be able to determine what does - and what does not - belong on board the aircraft?" "Oh, none.... ok, thanks.... Sorry, my crew and I do not have time to teach you what does and doesn't belong, now... please step out of the way so my passengers can board on time. Thank you." works most all the time. Called into CP's office once... he couldn't stop laughing |

FYI: Aero-news posted a follow-up; it looks like this TSA agent has done such (terrorist?) acts before.. and that the agency is encouraging such behavior.

This moronic behaivor does not surprise me one bit.
I was once told by a TSA person, that they have trouble distinguishing between a cell phone and a knife on the x-ray machine display. |

Stupid question since I'm instrument rated and should probably know this: What is TOTAL air temperature? Total of what?

Am I missing something here? Has there been a memo I overlooked where we now have locks installed on the main cabin and service doors? Or can anyone still access an aircraft by the incredibly complicated method of simply opening the door? Is it no longer SOP to secure RONs by pulling the jetbridge? And how was the inspector unable to get on board two of these aircraft!?!
OK, here's how we solve this problem................we'll install a viper car alarm with door locks (keep the keys with ops) on all the a/c and if that doesn't keep these idiots away then....................snakes on the plane! :D |

Total air temperature is an essential input to an air data computer in order to enable computation of static air temperature and hence true airspeed. Total air temperature - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
