No, did it in August..beginning..

JayHub 09-12-2008 06:46 PM

i applied in the first week of august and just got called yesterday, i did however call and harass and leave "what the hells going on" messages. They're trying to fill the October class. Apparently if you have jet time, you will get the jet, if there is a jet slot available. seniority is done by age. i don't know how they're selecting guys, coz a few of my fellow furloughed buds had there stuff walked in but they still ain't got the call...i do however think they're loading up for something that hasn't been announced.

Did they mention anything about class dates in November or December?

Got a thanks but no thanks email already and haven't even interviewed.

More than double the posted mins AND RJ time. :-/

I applied on 8/12/08 and didn't hear anything for awhile and a friend of mine told me that HR was looking at my app/resume. A couple of days ago I decided to go in and update my application and right after I did that I also got an email basically saying they have more qualified applicants than me at this time. I won't give up just yet. I'll keep emailing HR with updates every so often and maybe something will happen at some point.

Currently flying the jet, does not guarantee you would get the jet at Mesaba. It's all about the needs at the time, so you could very well get the saab. In fact in the past, the lower time folks have been going to the jets and the higher time guys going to the saab, to facilitate an easier upgrade when the time comes. Again... it all depends. So no you are not "chosen" to fly the jet. And any anti turboprop attitude will not sit well with anyone at XJ. Almost every single CA has flown at least one of the TPs we've operated from the metro to the F27 to the dash and saab.

Amen. In the initial roundtable when you get there for the interview, they start up casual conversation about what not, and the topic of aircraft came up. One young lad said he was a "jet pilot" because his university had a jet course and had sim time under his belt. He said he came to XJ to fly their jets. He didn't make it to lunch.

Yeah I can see why. This kind of attitude is extremely frustrating to see. Beggars cannot be choosers.

good luck finding that anywhere:rolleyes:

JayHub 09-13-2008 12:57 PM

not sure what to tell ya. I was told by HR that the aircraft were assigned on a need basis....BUT....if you are coming from 121 like 80% of the guys post sept 22nd class, and there is a jet slot...you'll most likely get it - true or not :rolleyes:who knows just a messenger here. i've spent the last year in the erj145 and quite frankly i couldn't give a rats left n*t what they give me as long 1) i get the job and 2)its turbine! Shame on the guys who frown on TProps.

RKIKZZA 09-13-2008 01:13 PM

JayHub 09-13-2008 01:16 PM

Jay,

How did you get your notice for the interview, call via cell or home or via email?

JayHub 09-13-2008 01:23 PM

an HR lady called me...cell

tstebel 09-13-2008 10:07 PM

Anyone else in here interviewing on the 17th?

RKIKZZA 09-14-2008 06:27 AM

I interview on the 16th.

JayHub 09-14-2008 08:16 AM

RKIKZZA - do you know if they have any slots left in for the 22nd or is your interview on the 16th for the october class?

detpilot 09-14-2008 08:40 AM

Regarding Jets vs tprops- Am I the only one who thinks the saab might be more fun than the CRJ? Granted, I've never flown anything larger than a 402, but I'd love to fly a Saab or a Dash, personally...

bored 09-14-2008 09:20 AM

Yes, the saab is more fun. It may not have the speed or toys that the CRJs have, but it's far more fun.

Thank you, finally someone who wants to fly the Saabster. Everyone always wants to go straight into the jet. The saab is a great plane to fly, lots of fun doing those visual approaches.

RKIKZZA 09-14-2008 09:42 AM

I'm not sure if they have spots left for the Sept. class. I'm assuming they are interviewing for October.

I just hope to get the job. After that they can do what they want with me.

bored 09-14-2008 10:07 AM

Actually, I've been told they are indeed looking for a couple more spots for the 22nd class. They're interviewing 2 extra days this week. Sounds like they're being really picky for who gets the job, hence the need for a few more folks for the 22nd. I heard this last weeks interviews were not good.

The only thing I didn't like about the SAAB was that it was so darned uncomfortable. Too Hot, too cold, and the seat sucked.

You do work your butt off...7,8,9 legs a day. Real NDB approaches were cool. Lots of holding. Cities were pretty interesting too.

The jet (CRJ) vs. tp (SAAB) is really a moot argument. Now if we were talking about the Avro - we could have an argument.

Honestly any plane is good, just different. Being old and grumpy I like smooth air, looking down at the weather, and hot wings.

On a different note, if you get the SAAB - the best trips are out of DTW. MEM is OK but too much sitting between turns. MSP sucks with two leg highspeeds and very short times between turns.

I live in MSP and was displaced to DTW for SAAB FO in '06. I hated the commute but the trips we nice.

I'm with you 100% on that, and the biggest thing I've ever flown is a Chieftain. Interview on the 18th so we'll see...

bradeku1008 09-14-2008 05:43 PM

Has the interview changed or are the gouges up to date?

Aww man... you grumpy old captains... always talking about the Avro... let it go man. Let it go.

Avroman 09-15-2008 04:09 PM

Sounds like you are a little jealous that you didn't get to fly the Avro... Course if you did you wouldn't be saying that so....

bored 09-15-2008 05:23 PM

Agreed!! Long live the avro!!

P-51D 09-15-2008 08:25 PM

Gouges are somewhat up to date...be ready for anything.

rorwizard 09-16-2008 10:02 AM

Jealous... no... tired of hearing captains tell me how much better the avro was than this airplane... yes

If you havent realized yet a part of the FO game is nod and smile. let it go man....

Avroman 09-16-2008 10:51 AM

Well then when you upgrade to the Saab you can tell the FO's about the days on the CRJ when you had an APU to keep warm or cool as needed......

another good thread turned into a pi$$ing match.

I don't care what you ride,Harley , Honda , Yamaha but I appreciate that you ride

I don't care what you fly but I appreciate that you fly and that we share the same interest.

Agreed... Another attitude isn't needed at Mesaba.

proskuneho 09-16-2008 08:53 PM

Back to what really matters :)
Any news on class dates after October? Any information leaks, or is everyone still waiting until the 23rd for the "big announcement"? Are people still getting called for interviews? If I do not get called in this cycle, what do those of you who work for Mesaba suggest I do? Do I just keep updating my resume regularly? Is there even a chance of getting called with 900 TT w/ 150 multi?
From what I have read to this point, Mesaba is my first choice right now.

bored 09-17-2008 04:25 AM

Just keep being persistent. Mesaba is getting hundreds of apps a week and someone has to sort through all of them before calls for interviews can be made. Hang in there! No solid info as to what is going on, just speculation at this point. The facts however are pointing to a lot of hiring. There is only knowledge of the October 6th class but the size won't be known until a vacancy comes out, probably this week is my guess. Beyond that, I don't think HR even knows!

RKIKZZA 09-17-2008 07:22 AM

I interviewed yesterday and there were 5 of us. All 121 experience. 1000-2000+ hours and a minimum of 500 multi. They are interviewing daily so I'm not sure what they are actually looking for but that was my experience.
