Sept. 22nd Mesaba Class

Hey guys and gals, figured I would start a new thread to get everyone for the 9/22 class to exchange thoughts/advise/concerns/information before training begins in less than two weeks. Congrats to everyone!:)

Squawk_5543 09-09-2008 08:19 AM

Why start a new thread? We have a Mesaba New Hires thread that has been going strong for a long time. All your questions can be answered there.

Aaaaaaah, new meat. :p

My advice is start growing a thick skin, you'll need it.

Good luck and study hard.

dimondan 09-09-2008 11:21 AM

When is the interview?

Fueler47 09-09-2008 01:34 PM

To answer your question "why" the new thread, because most of the posts on the "Mesaba New hire Thread" is about new bases. The reason I thought it would be a good idea is so the SEPT 22nd class pilots can interact with each other before class.

WIPilot 09-09-2008 01:35 PM

soon to be mesaba guys: check out mesabapilots.com

For those in the Sept 22 class:

1. Congrats! Those of us still waiting are envious, but happy for you.
2. How long were your resumes posted before they called you for an interview?
3. What hours/qualifications are they really hiring with now? (website says 600 TT, 50 ME minimums.)
4. Did they tell you which base you would be assigned?

Thanks, and good luck. Hope to join you later.

as far as #4 for bases they have you bid for that in seniority order in class. The only aircraft that is a sure bet as far as base is the 200 which is based in MSP.

proskuneho 09-09-2008 03:13 PM

How does seniority get assigned in a class at Mesaba? Is it by birthday?

LoudFastRules 09-09-2008 03:16 PM

Yup. Older ya are, more senior ya are.

JSDL 09-09-2008 03:24 PM

Those of you in the Sept 22 class , if you don't mind what kind of times do you have? And like previously asked how till you got the call for an interview?

cessnamann 09-09-2008 03:41 PM

What are the flight times of those being hired at mesaba right now? I have a lot of friends looking for thier first 121 job.

WIFlyer 09-10-2008 04:33 AM

Congrats to the new hires. Come here with an open mind, a willingness to learn and please leave any attitude you may have at home. Other than that, welcome and I feel bad for anyone staying at the Homestead . .. ..

Well here are my times. 2000tt, 432ME, 1497turbine, 1190xc, 230instrument, 1232turbine PIC all 135 experience. Aircraft flown C208 and BE200.
I'm still awaiting the call. So, I figure the gates are flooded with 121 guys that were furloughed. This industry has its ups and downs we just have to ride it out.

JSDL 09-10-2008 10:39 AM

Those of you that have been notified for an interview, how did you receive your notice? Phone or emial.

Aileron 09-10-2008 10:46 AM

I sent my things over 3 or 4 days ago.

flyboy2136 09-10-2008 11:04 AM

Or the Extended Stay for that matter... Beds are horrible there. Hope you get the Marriott/Town place over by the applebee's. There is a walmart and bunch of stuff within walking distance!

JayHub 09-11-2008 06:01 AM

guys in the sep 22nd class:

when did you put your stuff in???

I put mine in 8/6/08. times 1500tt 350 turbine, part 121....no call. i 'heard' that the class was filled mostly by guys whose stuff went in around july.

also if someone has a direct tel instead of the one that gets you the automated message, where all you can do is leave a message, give us a PM...jayhub

WIFlyer 09-11-2008 08:26 AM

I thought the Extended Stay was a little better. Oh well, it is good training for flying the line and staying at some of the places we do :p

JayHub 09-11-2008 01:54 PM

Now this is ironic, i start b*tching and this happens.... just got the call for an interview

put stuff in like 6 weeks ago: 15 hundo total and 3fiddy in the jet.

bradeku1008 09-11-2008 07:07 PM

And Here I thought things had actually got to the point where people just wanted a job regardless of the type of blades they were turning.....guess things aren't that bad....yet.

All kidding aside I would take any job I could land right now.

teamdothis 09-12-2008 09:07 AM

how does one submit an app with mesaba. not on airline apps and no online app at the website that i can find??

bored 09-12-2008 09:10 AM

Mesaba.com and go to the "we're hiring" link.

JSDL 09-12-2008 09:13 AM

Training

How long is training and is it all done in MSP?

bored 09-12-2008 09:24 AM

All ground schools start in Eagan, MN at the XJ training center, this includes indoc and systems. For sim, at the training center there are 2 saab sims and a CRJ200 sim with our 900 sim coming online shortly. That said... there is still a chance one could go to Montreal or Denver for sim as apparently those contracts that were due to end have been extended. Normal training footprint is about 6-8 weeks. During our massive ramp up, people were waiting a long time for OE once sim was complete, especially on the 200. With the entire 200 fleet on property, that length is likely much shorter for the future.

teamdothis 09-12-2008 11:07 AM

So how long have most been waiting to get a call back after completing the online app?

JSDL 09-12-2008 11:09 AM

Thanks Bored

Mine has been in over a month....my times are low though so not expecting much with all the experience floating around out there right now.

bored 09-12-2008 11:37 AM

I've heard that HR got over 100 apps in the last week. All those apps have to go through the first screening process and then they go to the HR rep that sorts out all the interview scheduling. In other words, be patient. We're one of only a few airlines hiring right now, so you can imagine how swamped everyone is. BTW - a wide range of times are being interviewed, not only high time pilots.

Ron Mexico 09-12-2008 12:44 PM

I heard that NWA is going to give Mesaba all Pinnacles CRJ-200's in MSP. Could this be why they are hiring a lot right now?

No, I believe Pinnacle has an agreement for something like 124 airplanes.

bored 09-12-2008 02:02 PM

Yes, but they can take more -200s if they get 900s in return. Something to think about... especially if PCL is in the running for the Freedom 900s, which I'm sure they are.

Xfire 09-12-2008 02:40 PM

Appearantly, they make up their minds very quickly to reduce the resumes they have to review.
Got a thanks but no thanks email already and haven't even interviewed.

More than double the posted mins AND RJ time. :-/
