To those that may be interested. They plan on hiring in the near future because they will have alot of retirements. At one of the bases in ATL they have about 6-8 guys who are 58+ so that should give you an idea.
I would say sometime time early next year that they will begin to hire. FYI they will not hire anyone who wants to be their on the short term until the airlines start hiring again because they have gotten burntin the past. When I get the word when the hiring window opens up I promise to post it.

How much flight time is competitive for the position? I think I read somewhere that most of the flight check pilots have ATP & 10,000 hours. Is that what you have? How about type ratings etc? You are set for life!

For those that wanna know, I got the FAA Flight Inspection Pilot job. The most important thing that everyone must know is that I found out about the job ON THIS WEB SITE. This web site is a great site when people pass info around so guys like myself can find great opportunities.
IMO I enjoyed my time at Colgan very much and enjoyed the people I worked with but maybe because I was on the Q. I never went through anything as close as to what I hear about on the Beech and SAAB side of the company.
P.S. SAAB your lucky I never met you in EWR!

Congrats on the job! That is something that I have been interested in myself. Which base are you going to be working out of and what a/c?

Right now I'm in ACY and start school on the BE-300 in DEC. Since the pay is public I start out as a GS-11(58K). After checkride GS-12(69K). After IOE which can take anywhere from 6mo to a year is GS-13(83K). When a PIC slot opens up you go to a GS-14(96K).
Flying at this job is really secondary the highest time pilot last year had about 600hrs and he really worked his butt off for it.
Avg flight time in a month is about 30hrs.
