Default FAA Administrator

Let's start over...Scene 1, Take 2.

Everyone seems to want an experienced, labor friendly Administrator who can lead the FAA into the 21st Century and address the issues that we all face every day. I agree. This is an important appointment. The entire federal air traffic control system needs to be re-vamped and changes need to be made that will enable our air traffic system to handle the expected growth of the next decades.

Why not make Robert (Bobby) Sturgill, the Acting Administrator, the next permanent Administrator ? He was a line pilot for United, an ALPA member and has worked in the higher eschelons of the FAA for the past several years. He knows the ropes and has demonstrated that he can lead. Why waste an appointment with Duane Woerth, or anyone else, who will have to go through a learning curve and then maybe, will prove to be an acceptable choice.

BTW, if you want to bash Senator Obama, President Bush, the Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, Communists, yada, yada...go somewhere else...please.

Thanks and G'Day Mates

Fine by me on all accounts. I have no problem with that. I admit that until I Wikipediad" ?" it, I thougt that lady, Marion Blakely, who forced Age 65 down our throat, was still the Administrator.

Looks like Sturgill has been in there since late last year. Do you know when and why he left United?

Respectfully,

Apparently, (according to a buddy of mine who used to be president of NATCA the air traffic controllers union), Sturgell is about as well liked among many in the aviation community as FRANK LORENZO....... After reading a few of my buddy's posts on his blog, he pretty much equates Sturgill to a brown nosing loser. Is that who we want as the FAA administrator? We've already got enough people in government trying to screw us. Why another?

It doesn't matter who is picked, there will be people coming on this forum and bashing the choice. Some will pipe up that they know this person and s/he is the salt of the earth, while others will say they know him/her and the person is satan incarnate.

You are quite right, but it's high time we had a pilot ADVOCATE in this position, not a "yes man" who's willing to sell us and our professions down the line. My friend worked in the NATCA office in DCA for MANY years and knows these people like the back of his hand. You've seen how much ATC is willing to work with us after THEIR contract was gutted. Sturgell is apparently wanting to keep things just the way they are. That CAN'T be good for us NOR ATC. JMHO

Perhaps Bobby Sturgell isn't the best choice. I cast a vote for him because of his previous work, because he was an actual line pilot and an active ALPA member. After having worked under/for Duane Worth at National for several years and having been an ALPA member under his presidency, I'll take Sturgell, or anyone else, any day. Whom would you select ?

I also think who ever is selected, is going to be in for a tough time with the "do nothing" Congress that's in session and the economic realities of the day. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

Who would have ever thought that Worth would be better remembered than Prater, the ultimate poster child for incompetance?

The "Iron Law of Bureaucracy" prevails. (by Jerry Pournelle, and is a variation of the more well known "Iron Law of Oligarchy")

The man or woman officially "in charge" of any organization like the FAA can have very little impact, either short or long term.

Hence, I've decided not to worry too much about the current flavor of the month. It's not worth the heartburn.

JMHO, but it seems like anyone who takes a job inside the beltway places politics ahead of everything else regardless of how good or not good their resume speaks of them.

I'm hoping that a **good** person is chosen for this position too since I hope to break into this industry in the near future. My point was about the constant bickering that happens when names are mentioned on this forum. Looking at it from the outside it would appear that there is no **good** person
