Yeah if you go to the news site that's linked and click on the hyperlink to the ARJ21-700 aircraft info, it talks about the design. Quote:

"The ARJ 21 is built using tooling provided by McDonnell Douglas for licenses production of the MD-90. The ARJ21 has a strong resemblance to the DC-9 series aircraft with identical nose profile and cabin cross-section."

So there you go. They aren't ashamed at all. DC-9 on the outside and in the cabin, CRJ in the cockpit and on the engine pylons....:D

Nobody tell Northwest or Delta that you can put CRJ engines on a DC-9 or they'll try it

Here's a PHOTO of the flight deck. It looks like a CRJ replica. Collins Pro-Line, very similar switchgear. The center console looks nearly identical.

Well the Communists have always been good at stealing a western design, repainting it, and calling it thier own design.....

I want to puke with some of the negative comments on this board.

I know, geez. Why do all the people posting think that a company shouldn't call a plane their own, new design when they piece together a bunch of different components from other airplanes. Its not like China has rules against this or anything.

I think I will go vomit too. :(

LOL!!!! Now that's funny.... and probably true! At least I wouldn't have to choke on blue smoke every time I depart behind one!

Exaclty......I mean thats bascially the CRJ (200,700,900) cockpit. Combine that with the DC-9 body and everything else......

But hey Im not hating, im glad that it flew.......

IIRC, the ARJ21 was designed for a specific domestic flying niche in china. I don't think it will even be certified by the FAA/JAA...so we probably won't see it in mesa colors (unless you go to china).

The wing is Russian, the engines are American (GE CF34-10A, used on EMB190/195s).

And how original: ARJ-21: Asian Regional Jet, 21st century.

Even though the fuselage dates back to the 50s and the engines to the 80s.

Whatever, China.

much the same, and just like people got mad at boeing for calling it their own design, the Chinese are doing the same thing....Guess you could say we caused it ourselves though, had McDonald Douglas not tried to export manufacturing to China, it probably wouldn't have happened that way anyway.

I can only think of how the "performance" would be, with underpowered engines on a DC9 body....sounds SLOW.
