From Republics Bryan Bedford letter 12 /11/08
"We still have 150 people on furlough and our book of business will contract further in 2009 unless we can develop new ways to grow our business".
Hopefully no more layoffs!

i think it will depend on atrition more than anything else. as long as we dont have any more large sudden cuts of airplanes like what happend with the 135's. Although i wonder what will happen to our lga base when the united flying goes at the end of next year.

I have a strong suspicion that if the economy continues its downward spiral, there will be more furloughs for most of the airlines. I hate to seem gloomy but it is a distinct reality. Everybody is cutting back now, including business travelers, companies are laying off and reducing jobs like crazy. Things are generally drying up everywhere (although one ridiculous poster in one of these threads said in his opinion the economy was getting better - wonder what newspapers he reads?).
If it continues we will begin to lose passengers and the need to cut flying.
The only reason air travel has exploded as much as it has since the early 2000's is because the economy was generally very healthy and booming. That isn't the case now. I would be surprised if we don't go from a recession to a depression.
I **HOPE** it doesn't come to that and its just a gloomy prediction that never occurs, but I can't say that I put much faith behind that hope.
Good luck to you guys at Republic.

That number includes mechanics. You do know that more than just pilots work here, right?
