Default What Star Charts?

Not Standard Terminal Arrivals charts but charts that tell you what you are looking at in the night sky. Does anybody have a good recommendation of one small enough to fit into my flight kit?

Several apps are available if you're an iPhone user. Check out iAstronomica, Starmap, and Star Walk among others in the App Store.

Search for a freeware program for palm called "sky chart". I have it on my treo. It works pretty good. When I am flying at night, I will put in my exact lat/lon and it gives you a good picture.

When I was based at IAD, I went to the Smithsonian shop there and bought a little round one that would fit into my kit. Gave me 10% off because I was in uniform, around $15, I think. You should be able to get one from their online store also.

I have *heard* that if you turn the cockpit lights and CRT's all the way down, you get a heck of a view of the night sky if you are above FL300.

I have a Palm Treo and installed an application called "Planetarium" on it. It took a little time to get used to it, but it's been perfect for my purposes. You can download and try it out at Planetarium for the Palm Computing Platform and see if you like it.

Those would be stars or other airplanes. Maybe even Venus or the ISS.
