Yeah I wouldn't count on them hiring anytime soon. Especially since they're looking to get more guys to take leaves of absence and may be introducing part time pilot lines.
|
Just looked at their web sight and it looks to be true. I heard they were gearing up to take over some or all of the flying Mesa is doing for United now. Any one heard this rummer?

Post Date 12/31/2008 Closing Date 12/31/2009 Title First Officer Pilot City OPEN Coincidence? Move along folks nothing to see here... By the way every UAX carrier is gearing up to take over all or some of Mesa flying. |
Furloughed? Must have already checked this one out.
|
SkyW reminds me of the Borg....Keep up it up guys! Good luck!
Baja. |
They've also got an ad on the willflyforfood.com jobs board. Posted in the last week or so if I remember correctly. Odd since they are so over staffed now, but things can change quick.
|
here, i will help you all out

NO chance we are hiring. Even if mesa kicked the bucket it would take 20 planes to become properly staffed and then we would pull from the hiring pool.

Just saw something interesting in the last few days.
I don't think this is a certain sign for SKW, but United is turning gates 69 and 70 in SFO into Express gates. The last trip I was on, the Bro was using 71 exclusively and they were putting 200s at 69 and 70. They've cut out little portions of the jetbridge to fit the RJ steps and they installed those absurd yellow railings to guide the cattle into the cave. I don't think this is definitely for a huge SKW 700 expansion, but with all those 737s being retired I think many of the UAX carriers will see an increase in flying. |
I was on campus yesterday for recurrent and had to kick the tumbleweed aside to get to the classroom.
|
As far as I know, we are still taking delivery of some new UAX 700's....this was planned a while ago, the intent was to replace the Bros. But now it looks like the Bros are staying for a while too.
UAL has already done an RFP to replace mesa, SKW has a bid in for that as do other regionals. Everyone's just waiting for OJ to zig when he should have zagged...he cannot survive even one mistake at this point. |
I figured it was time for the weekly SkyWest hiring rumor. I was talking to another Mesa pilot who says he has an interview with SkyWest in a couple weeks, which seems a bit odd. Anyone else interviewing with them soon or know about them resuming interviews??
|
I think he is dreaming! Did hear however that skywest got FAA blessing to train Mesa pilots in a shortened ground school. Anyone else hear this?

Surely WAVIT is just joking around... |
I spoke with the pilot recruiter a couple weeks ago about that "hiring for open bases as of 12/31/08 thing". She couldn't tell me why it said that, and that they won't be hiring for awhile.
*I wanted to ask her if she had any idea how cruel that mis-leading info is to the rest of the industry........ Good luck everyone! |
Yeah. In my short time at a 121 carrier I came to realize that "I heard" is just as reliable as "I think".
Obviously, I hope the rumors are true.......But I heard they are not. |
it may be wise for skw just to take what they can get...maybe they can split the money with UAL. You know someone else will pay the 22mil to get the flying.
|
I saw an add the other day...COMAIR is hiring!!!!!! That add was dated early December too. It even said "Comair is always looking for talented professionals to join our team" I guess us 300 furloughed pilots were not talented enough:D
(I think they already pay for those adds month before they actually come out) |
Just to add to all the rumors, I got this email today from a Sky West recruiter:
Dear XXXXXXXX Thank you for your interest in a First Officer position with SkyWest Airlines. While we are currently gathering resumes, we are not actively conducting interviews at this time. Please continue to visit SkyWest Airlines - A leader among regional airlines to update your profile and receive the latest information on future opportunities. Sincerely, XXXXXX Pilot Interview Coordinator |
Even if SkyWest started hiring again, they would bring in their 'pool' first to training. Not sure on the exact number but think it is well over 100. If they train 20 at a time, that is a minimum of 6 months.
SkyWest won't be hiring for a while. A good indication of when they will start is after their pool is getting assigned class dates. I think they are just gathering resumes because they intend to expand as soon as the opportunity arises. Everyone assumes that is MAG going under but I think there are a lot of other regionals that are also struggling. |
If SkyWest does hire they will, according to corporate policy, transfer furloughed ASA pilots over to their certificate. Nothing contractual though.
|
If you had the privilege of reading the last SAPA email you'd be crazy to think hiring was possible in the near future.
|
Ayep...barring any miracle (add'tl flying or mgmt putting together a half-decent leave package ) we certainly will furlough come Fall.
|
i know. when skywests stock is nearing 7 bucks a share you know things are going down hill quick for everyone. i mean pinchanickle is barely holding on to 1 dollar.
|
Skywest is HIRING (FAs)! If your in such a hurry to get on with them take a FA job, it will help you get a FO seat if/when they do ever start hiring again :D Flight Attendants are great.

I also wonder about some kind of displacement bid if the above scenario becomes a reality. It's no secret that the EMB is scheduled begin leaving the fleet. With workforce and aircraft reductions (and the addition of the CR9's), there will probably have to be some sort of shifting around. I wonder if I will become an ORD commuter from FAT  |

I was told by a SAPA rep last Friday that the numbers being thrown around are 150-250 furloughs come fall. They don't want to furlogh now because the EMBs are at normal staffing. Once they start parking them in a couple of months then we'll have an excess in that category.
Their trying to keep training cost at a minimum. I guess they've figured out it will take 9 months and $750,000 to get everyone qualified for their new seat when displacements happen. 75-125 captain downgrades was also a number I heard. Block hours in the fall are suppose to be down 6-10% from March levels. They may need to hire flight attendants in the near future because the junior ones are going on 2 years of reserve. With no chance of being a line holder in the future the attrition rate is high. |
