Pinnacle to TOL -shortest route flown by CRJ?

Pinnacle is again flying DTW-TOL. Looks like appx. 60 miles. Would this be the shortest route flown by a CRJ? Looks like Mesaba is flying it using the Saabs.

I thought the old CLT-HKY run (CC Air [ US Airways Express ] ) was a short flight - it was about 12 minutes one-way and about 53 miles in distance from CLT.

flynavyj 03-03-2009 02:08 PM

Don't know who else does it, but ORD-MKE is only 59NM, something like 67 SM. It's probably our shortest flight, however, after the delays are built in, it takes longer than it would have to drive, at least for most people.

Spoilers 03-03-2009 02:10 PM

Definitely not the shortest! I can think of a few shorter ones...

CVG-DAY 55nm
ORD-MKE 58 nm

CVG-DAY is served by most DCI carriers is approx 49 sm

according to City Distance Tool - Find the distance between 2 cities...

gear up; gear down

I've done DAY-CVG in 17 minutes! Depart 24L. Turn left heading 210 and join CVG Rwy 18R localizer. Block time was around 33 minutes :) I got paid $18 for that flight (2nd yr pay). Score!!

UpThere 03-03-2009 02:18 PM

Does a thru flight count? AWAC used to do lga-phf-orf. The phf-orf leg was a little over 20 miles.

What were you guys snoozin!? haha j/k
well before we were getting Block or Better (when it really didn't matter) we did a SW T/o out of DAY to a 18L landing in 12 minutes! Of course we were 2 hours late and missed the big arrival bank, but lots of work in the cockpit.. nothing like logging a .4 block line in the old logbook..

The Juice 03-03-2009 02:28 PM

XJet used to do IAH to CLL along with Colgan Saabs. CAL finally got smart and decided a 145 is not best suited for a 63 mile flight and now it is only a Saab run, 8 times a day

Utah 03-03-2009 02:29 PM

Skywest use to do ONT-LAX. I'm not sure if we still do. We still have MRY-SFO and SMF-SFO.

johnso29 03-03-2009 02:30 PM

IAH-EFD for Continental Express....7 mins :D

Windsor 03-03-2009 02:33 PM

dtw-fnt 54 miles done by an A-320 as well

Herbie 03-03-2009 02:34 PM

I did STL to SPI one night in 9 minutes T/O to touchdown. Not sure how many miles it was, but it was the best leg you could have going to an overnight. We used to call the hotel before we taxied out of STL casue it usually took the van 30 mins to get there from Downtown. I miss all of that flying out of the Lou. Dulles really sucks.

ExperimentalAB 03-03-2009 02:53 PM

How about MKE-ATW (not even a cross-country!) on SkyWest's Midwest RJ's?

CaptKrunch 03-03-2009 03:40 PM

Though not the shortest CLT-CAE is fun. Done it in 12 mins.

Do you guys still do LAX-SNA with the Bro's? I thought that was a short one as well.

BlueMoon 03-03-2009 04:03 PM

CVG-LEX...done in .2 on the hobbs...I think we were airborne 14 minutes

I think we still do, but don't know for sure. Haven't been in the EMB in over 8 years. I remember doing that one as well as LAX-OXR. Long day for little pay.

Killer51883 03-03-2009 04:08 PM

go jet does RIC to IAD. Your still talking to the same approach. Used to do CVG to CMH in less than 20 minutes. The shuttle routes out of HNL are awfully short too less than 30 minutes block.

flynwmn 03-03-2009 04:33 PM

CLT-FLO 23 minutes in the Dash today

I bid to do TOL and CAK next month, and that's all I do.

hockeypilot44 03-03-2009 04:41 PM

US Airways mainline used to do Ithaca to Elmira. I think it was like 31 sm.

ATI stalwart 03-03-2009 06:48 PM

tol-dtw is 49 miles, I beleive. Took a DC-8 from tol-YIP and back many times. Whew! lotta work in that airplane for that length of flight.

Dude, don't forget PHL - ABE....12 minutes, wheels up to wheels down.

Ftrooppilot 03-03-2009 07:35 PM

DTW - FNT 60 mile "MAJOR" route.

-ep- 03-03-2009 07:38 PM

AirNav says DTW to TOL is 42.7nm...so short that passengers could probably drive it in a shorter period of time than it takes them to board, taxi, and fly over there.

FR8DWGIE 03-03-2009 07:58 PM

Actually it is shorter to drive the DTW-TOL. I drive it every week. I don't know what the block is in the CRJ, but in the Saab it blocks 52 minutes and driving is about 50.

Aaaaaaa.........how I miss the good old redbarn approach.

shiznit 03-03-2009 08:29 PM

Don't remember the mileage, but we did IAH-EFD and IAH-HOU in Brasilias, ATR's , B-1900's and E-145's at COEX (XJT for you young 'uns). The Brasilia was so much work that some of the guys wouldn't even put the gear or flaps up if the dep. was 15's (which it almost ALWAYS is).

I think the shortest I remember IAH-EFD was 7 minutes takeoff to touchdown. You could do it in :11 in an ATR, and that was one slow bird.

MKE-MSN is even shorter! Did a MKE-ORD a few weeks back and our taxi from 27R to F1D was almost 3 times longer than the actual flight was.

PCLCREW 03-03-2009 08:55 PM

wow what an ausome thread...

viking767 03-03-2009 09:04 PM

AA used to fly DFW-IAD-DCA in a 727 before the distance restrictions at DCA were lifted.

ToiletDuck 03-03-2009 09:33 PM

I use to fly CVG-DAY and CVG-IIU. We'd call while still on the ground to let them know we were about to be in range.

Windsor 03-04-2009 05:24 AM

Quickest ever was back in my freight hauling days. We'd do MMCU-KELP. 7 miles. We'd leave the gear and flaps down in both the Falcon and Lears.
If it wasnt for the border crossing, it would be much faster to drive.

FlyingNasaForm 03-04-2009 07:56 PM

PHL-ABE in a CRJ 200. 47.7nm

Rolling down taxiway S in PHL, tower asked if we had the inflight movie qued up for the long flight.

asj410 03-04-2009 08:26 PM

Up until around 2004 or so, Hawaiian used to run a 717 between LNY and MKK...a distance of 27 miles.

Back in the 1990s, Delta and TWA used to have flights between MIA and FLL....a distance of 21 miles. In fact, Delta even used 757s and 767s on it (continuation from ATL).

Even further back, in the '70s or '80s, United flew 727s from SFO to OAK...a distance of 11 miles.

PacWings currently has one or two daily roundtrips between MKK and LUP (the cargo carrier I fly for also does a MKK-LUP run every morning)...a distance of 9 miles.

Wow - here's something you don't see very often....

Pilots bragging about having the smallest (shortest) thing...

Because the Delta station at SDF could hear you on the ground in CVG, right...

I think we did that in 11 minutes one day at AWAC, and it would have been 10 if we could have departed 35...

Bloodhound 03-05-2009 09:43 AM

KCLE-KCAK on the 1900 (35 miles), KIAH-KEFD in the 145 and ATR (24.5 miles), and KIAH-KHOU (20.6 miles).
