Potential Shift in IAD Operations?

Not trying to stir the pot here, just asking a serious question to see if anyone has heard more than the rumors that I have about ExpressJet potentially taking over Trans States United flying in Dulles? Like I said, all I have heard are rumors to that effect, just curious if anyone has any solid information on the subject.

Killer51883 03-19-2009 10:30 AM

god bless those express jet crews if they do. that will be a rude awakening going from IAH, CLE, and EWR ops to the joke that is IAD's ramp.

Salukipilot4590 03-19-2009 11:00 AM

HA! Well I wouldn't be surprised if anything happened now...

TSA - Impossible is nothing!

You've obviously never been to EWR Terminal A. :D

TBucket 03-19-2009 12:40 PM

Ha, the only way IAD operations could shift is if they occasionally got a plane out on time...

newarkblows 03-19-2009 03:31 PM

it is a rumor and it has about as much weight as all the others. We have people at our company who will walk around talking "loud" about what they just heard from so and so... 10 min later it is on our company boards from a reliable source (aka gullible).

There was a rumor going around that there was a big announcement here like two months ago. It was going to be on the 15th and it was going to be about xjt.... everyone had heard about "the announcement" rumor and then you know what it was? colgan got 15 more q400's. Knife through the heart for all those rumor lovers...

Dulles ops cant be any worse then ewr term A was when it started. It might win if what you say is true for continually **** poor performance but for being a notable mention ewr term A you could wait for rampers for 45 min and then an hour for a jetway driver while you are parked, bag door open (not getting paid), with ****ed off passengers, in the meantime there were rampers, gate agents, and open gates over in our old term c, oh and an ops coordinator who stopped responding to radio calls unless you sounded desperate or said your passengers were dialing 911.... that was ewr terminal A for 3 weeks.

DryMotorBoatin 03-19-2009 03:31 PM

what would that leave TSA with?

and i do believe Impossible is Nothing should be TSA's new motto...i like that.

Are they still requiring you to call ops to verify your gate assignment when you get on the ground? What a cluster.

LGA is the cluster, EWR and IAD are cake walks compared to the Garbage

ExperimentalAB 03-19-2009 04:47 PM

You're going to get garbage ramp operations at any major-metro Airport. It's the name of the game; it isn't a matter of which is worst...

Obviously you have been to IAD. When are they going to be forced to become "English Proficient"?

it pops up on acars now right after we land... it has gotten 10x better

Three Green 03-19-2009 06:01 PM

LGA has been cake since september. What you talkinging about Juice

TBucket 03-20-2009 12:48 AM

Wow, gate assignments on ACARS?!?! All we ever get are notices to call scheduling...

Don't answer acars messages during sterile cockpit and you'll solve that problem.:D

Ha, we don't answer those acars messages EVER... I was just amazed that the damn thing works for something other than "Call scheduling" and "Why were you late?" :D

tr disagree 03-20-2009 01:17 PM

EWR Terminal A on a good day is still worse the IAD ramp. I use to work for a UEX carrier back in the day in ORD and IAD was our other base and still Term A in EWR is worse then ORD when every aircraft would wait 20min for a gate.

iPilot 03-20-2009 01:46 PM

The "which major airport has the best ramp" is kind of like a competition for "world tallest midget"

That's cool. I remember back in the spring/summer when the ACARS gate assignment thing first started, and in EWR it was so rarely correct that it was just ridiculous. I remember getting chewed out by ops for parking at the wrong gate after we followed what was on the ACARS instead of calling them first. That was fun.

Glad to hear it's gotten better though. :)

Being chewed out by ops was a right of passage in EWR especially when they f-ed up. Just like getting yelled at but the ramp Nazi when we still parked at C2 when life was good.

Oh iPilot no one is arguing who has the best ramp, we are arguing who has the worst ramp. By far 98% of Mexico stations BJX, MTY, HUX, GDL have the best ramp and customer service. The US rampers and gate agents need to take lessons from them.

we did a turn out of MTY, shut down the airplane and we both went to stretch our legs outside for 10 min. When we stepped back in the cleaners were polite as they were leaving and the cockpit/cabin was spotless. they wiped it down surprisingly well... like your car after the car wash. I will never make a joke about mexico ops ever again.

tr disagree 03-20-2009 05:40 PM

When I last in GDL we just cleared the runway and started heading over to the gate and I noticed the marshaler 2 wing walkers the GPU guy with the cord in his hand, the cleaners and the federalies all waiting for us. Just like you said the plane was cleaner then when we left IAH and they were very professional and polite to us. I loved mexico turns.

I have to agree with you guys, the folks in Mexico are incredibly efficient at their jobs, and the gate agents as mentioned earlier have the best customer service, another reason why I don't mind doing the overnights down there at least 4 or 5 times a month; besides, the view is quite nice :D

As far as worst ops, well, I've been to IAD a few times, and they are about 10 times better than EWR. EWR is just a different animal, it's a small regional hub in the middle of an international hub with only 1 runway to get in and out (usually), and now with terminal A, it's created one of the most challenging operations in the country.

Its funny, no one called me to ask about this when it was going on, everyone on the MEC could'nt believe people bought that crap,.....................

It's like an army of workers there waiting for something to do. They really appreciate their jobs down there even if it means cleaning the toilet. Sometimes they even wash the plane on the overnight! Now you know where to send your dirty planes.

I agree GDL (guadals) is the beez kneez ... 15 ground handlers and the quickest turn of my life. Did you call for the tacos on the in-range? I just love the "in case of radio communications failure as i head straight for the ridges." :p

Alright I am dying to know. When you guys say garbage operations on the ramp - what do you mean exactly?

We are convinced that our ramp operations at about every out station is the worst in the industry and so is our dispatch - so please share. I'd love to hear how it is for other people.

I didn't see anything on the news, but we are now officially on the United search engine for flights.

Do a search between IAD-EWR or CLE and ORD-CLE on June 4th and you will see some of the legs we are doing.

HercDriver130 04-27-2009 12:23 PM

IAD A gates ....hum.. no inbetween there... you either get great service.. or it sucks..... mostly sucked.... much preferred parking over in the C concourse at IAD.

When I flew for S5 we did Kingston Jamaica turns out of ATL.... like a freaking bee hive down there.... plus you could usually get a ramper to go get these empanada like sandwhichs for like 2 bucks a piece.... bottom line the service we got down there was every good or better than the DCI service we got in ATL.

onetogo 04-27-2009 12:35 PM

Given this news, any thoughts on recalls??

That's really really weird considering those are XJET cities, you'd think that we would have heard any news. Mesa does those flights too so it might be them. There hasn't been any talks at TSA.

pinkpanther 04-27-2009 01:18 PM

I think now is probably the time that the MECs of both TSA and Xjet need to get together and discuss what is going on here. This "short term flying" out of IAD is more than suspicious when you look at the specific city parings.

newarkblows 04-27-2009 01:36 PM

suspicious how? its only a 3 month deal

It might be some TSA flying, but it is some Mesa flights. Last time it was to fill in for Mesa because they couldn't complete their flights to UAL's standard. It lasted over 3 weeks during spring break 2008.

Just search on united.com and you will see who is operating what flights

None due to this, it is only temporary.

That will only get you somewhere with half of them. Unfortunately due to the tribal conflicts the other half will stab you when given the opportunity.
