I figured this was a good thread for a corny Top Gun quote...
Stick and Rudder that's how I fly

Personal preference, but if you're going to use speed mode for a climb or descent, set the estimated VS first, wait for the plane to react, then engage speed mode. Or else the AP will get overzealous and think it's a rollercoaster. Unless you're trying to give the pax a fun ride, then by all means...

My memory is a little fuzzy with the furlough (6 months and counting), but I got in the habit of using pitch mode once I reached my target Mach cruise. About 2.5 degrees nose up kept it there until reaching cruise alt. It seemed to be a smoother climb than using speed mode and required less work than VS mode. This was Comair PPAS so we often flew much slower than other operators.
For configured on FAF was it weight+20 or ref+20 for N1? It was one of the two.

Brakes released, ready for pushback.
Ding! A/Skid IB A/Skid OB Caution Message.
Parking Brake ON (Cautions extinguish)
Parking Brake OFF (Cautions re-illuminate)
Simply Release parking brake, feet off brakes, then reach up an flip the A/Skid TEST switch quickly one time. Viola!
Works Good. Lasts Long Time.

It works better than you think. You just have to know how to use it properly. Don't neglect the gain when it's a very moist or dry atmosphere. Paint the ground through the TS or go around. At cruise tilt down till 1/3 of the range paints ground. Normal radar stuff. The dish size and power is limited but it's much better than a GA T-props radar and much better than a strike finder. As good as a large business jet radar, unless it's doppler.

Good radar testl: Tilt it all the way down and line one of the range rings up to the terrain. You'll see all four colors plus if it follows the range ring it's level. Otherwise it's tilted to the side a bit (works better in flat areas).
Also tilting the radar to -0.6 you should see that terrain line at about your height AGL /1000. So if you are at 35,000 and the ground is about 1,000 MSL then you should see a nice solid line at 34 miles ahead.
For the FMS when you enter a custom fix you can add a /then a custom name as well. For example: SWL/-15/TOD. Will add a fix called TOD 15 miles short of SWL as opposed to SWL01. It will also work with ROC190/HDP350/YOU.
