Don't go to FL410 when ferrying an airplane, switch seats, and be an idiot in general and you will be OK.

Not according to the MEL book I had to look at in the plane. I wish that everything couldn't be inop, but apparantly at least for us the FAA has no issue with it.

Not so fast.......Different airlines have different MEL's, just as they have different procedures authorized in their ops specs and FOM.

This one ALWAYS cracks me up, do you need to report it to ATC if you are not climbing at 500 FPM, OR UNABLE to climb at 500 fpm? Big difference, especially if you may need to level out temporarily to gain energy.

Reference 5-3-3;

http://www.faa.gov/airports_airtraff...5/aim0503.html

Would it be nice to let ATC know that you are not climbing at at least 500 fpm for a short period of time? Sure, is it mandatory, read the paragraph.

I admit, I was a little swift to make such a all-inclusive a statement like that, however I don’t know many airlines that can dispatch an aircraft with BOTH flight directors (and of course the autopilot) inoperative without a laundry list of exceptions. Can you state your specifics?

Seriously? A 121 Captain didn't feel comfortable dispatching a plane without an A/P or FD's?! What does that say about us...

ha ha i love it when I'm about to fly Memphis to LIttle Rock or some little hop in my backyard on a beautiful vfr day and the first words out of the FO's mouth are "you're gonna refuse it right? Man don't be a sissy company man refuse it. Every other CA would refuse it...."

Ok fine. Individual operators MEL's are typically more restrictive than the FAA approved MMEL. Just to satisfy my curiosity, do you know if your company allows dispatch revenue ops during instrument departures and arrivals with BOTH flight directors inoperative?

Air Wisconsin did back in mid-2006; I have no idea how things are nearly 3 years later.
