Eagle News

It seems as if things have been pretty quiet lately regarding AE. Just wondering if there has been any new news regarding displacements, vacancies, CRJ options, furloughing, hiring, ect?

Tons of rumors, ranging from hiring in the fall to furloughing. Absolutely nobody knows whats going on. Recently, there was a displacement/vacancy bid to move crews to the ATR for some increased flying hours but that flying "did not materialize". I had been displaced to SJU in that bid. Now they've canceled it and here we are, today, having no idea whats coming up next.

All has been quiet...I think everywhere has the furlough rumor lately. I think it will be a couple of months before we see something major happen.

Hopefully we'll find out in the next few weeks when Eagle attends the SAMA conference for UND's students/alum on April 17th. The flyer states that they will be interviewing on site....pilots? Who knows.

Even if they interview there is a pool, and people on LOA's... not to mention all the bad news going around seem more likely than hiring.

Eagle is not going to hire until we see some growth. And at this point any growth would be a re-increase in flying to our previous levels. So I guess that's not growth then. With the summer coming it seems like a good time to bulk up on pilots to cover summer fllying but it appears we are overstaffed as it is. If anything we will be able to cover the summer flying then go back to being overstaffed in the fall.

Everyone I run into claims a class is starting "next month". I've also heard that ever since last fall. I really think the most likely scenario's for Eagle are:

1) They hang onto everyone for now and reevaluate things month to month and use part/zero time lines, LOAs to get by.

if that doesn't work

2) They will furlough to satisfy staffing needs for the reduction in flying.

3) I haven't come up with a 3rd scenario I'm sure we can all be pretty creative.

3) They furlough and hire at the same time- because it makes no sense and thats the AMR-way! ;)

Rumor mill is hot about acquiring more 70-seat CRJ's, but parking a greater number of 37/44 seat EMB's for a net loss of aircraft and need for pilots. The "F" word is floating around quite seriously since attrition is slow.

Stay tuned.

Did you see the ALPA schedule for the meeting on April 9th?

Topic #9 was overstaffing/furlough update.

Sounds ominous.
