Reading is hard, I know.

Guy wants things to be more like Europe. Well, European countries have a higher minimum wage (a thing Americans are vehemently opposed to) and many are Democratic Socialist countries (the end of the world from what I hear).

Is that easier to understand or should I use smaller words?

Smaller words please, my brain hurts now.

About this small would be better.

Someone please tell me...if someone doesn't tip why does it bother you so much? Why is this, awkwardly, such a polarizing topic?

Also someone a few posts ago complained about someone making assumptions...yet that's exactly what you people are doing when you form an opinion based on one detail.

In this thread I've been called selfish, cheap narcissistic, and been told sarcastically "gee I bet your fun to fly with."

Being called names doesn't bother me. I've been called worse things by better people than you. Just makes me feel bad for people that are that judgemental over something largely trivial.

It bothers some people because they view the airline as some sort of fraternity where they think it’s acceptable to get in to the personal business of others and use shame and peer pressure. It’s just a job. I’m all for tipping, but when you have to stand there for 45 minutes waiting for pickup they don’t deserve it. That happens more often than not.

Not a single person is saying you should tip for that.

WHY are you standing there for 45 minutes?
Do you know? Is it the drivers fault?

At that happens more often than not?

Nope, I don't tip. Happily load my bags into the back of the van myself thanks, I don't need someone to do that menial task for me. I've worked plenty of minimum wage (or near minimum wage) service jobs which entailed far more than just driving a van and loading bags, and never expected a tip.

I mean seriously, do you tip the person bagging your food at the store? The fueler who comes up and confirms your fuel load before darting off? The airport janitor when you're leaving the restroom? The plane cleaners that come in after the flight (depending on carrier :p ).

There are jobs far more deserving of a tip that don't expect one, and they don't necessarily make more than the van driver.

I've also worked as a shuttle driver by the way, just not for a hotel. Never expected any tips. Ridiculous.

Maybe I will when I'm not swimming in debt and want to share the wealth a bit. But that would be voluntarily sharing, not some arbitrary requirement that for some reason only applies to van drivers.

I hope my airline never hires you. Don’t know you, but based on this post I don’t want you representing my company. Fwiw, per diem for a 4 day at my company is about $190. $4-$6 per 4 day trip for the van drivers isn’t unreasonable.

So you think a dollah makes you represent?
Somehow makes you a “nice” dude?

Truly gangsta would be the Captain paying for the whole crew ‘cause that pimp mofo is making all the greens.
Hollah!

I've gotta say that I'm still not convinced. Here yet another trip and my crew is about 50/50 on tips. Nobody cares or judges. It feels good to be normal and not judgemental or self-righteous.

Same thing actually. Literally not an issue at all and in fact was a great trip with a great crew. I am beginning to think there are just a few "tip" warriors on these boards.

The irony of them judging the rest of us is lost on them. I did tip twice this trip, both times because I had the cash on me, once because the driver actually met us at the security checkpoint and another because he was entertaining and gave really good advice about what to do around the hotel.

I loaded and unloaded my bags each time.
