Default captain displacement question...

I was recently displaced to fo and there is a provision in the contract that gives displaced captains 90 days of "super seniority", after 90 days any upgrades are strictly seniority based. I am fairly junior here and as of June 2nd my "super seniority" expires and I probably won't be upgrading here for a few more years (if I'm still here). I was wondering if there are any other pilot contracts out there that have the same provision. As far as I know most contracts bring back the originally displaced captains regardless of seniority. Thanks!

I'd have to re-read my contract, but I don't think I get to upgrade out of seniority order just because I'm displaced (which I really am). If senior FO's who did not bid CA before, then bid it later, they get it before me even though I was already a CA.

Thanks Otto,

My previous employer (from which I was furloughed), brought back the captains that were displaced first, then seniority order regardless of when the need for more captains occurs. The not-so-funny thing here is my first trip after being displaced was with a green captain. This company never ceases to amaze me.

My company the second you are displaced/downgraded then you must resubmit a bid for upgrade. It is like you were never a capt before. Now guys that didn't upgrade before are in line in front of you if they chose to upgrade this time.

Mesaba has that type of provision called Reinstatement rights. I don't know the exact details but it's similar to what you describe.

I am going to guess thats not common. I could see why the company would like it. It saves them money because you could return without going into a full training cycle. Another pilot, senior, would have to do the entire cycle because they are not current as captain.

Just a guess.

What is a Green Captain? There haven't been upgrades since last summer, they must have had 6 months and a PC under their belt.

The decision to displace 30 captains occured while there was an upgrade class in progress. Apparently the higher ups were debating as to whether or not to cancel the class while it was in progress, they didn't. The announcement came around the time of their fed rides. Poor planning by management..

Comair has displaced a couple hundred Captains so far. We have "super seniority" recall rights for 12 months from date of displacement.
