Who will be the CRJ 1000 US customer?

There is an undisclosed order US order for 16 crj 1000 aircraft. Its scheduled to make its first passenger flight this fall with a european airline. Will it be a Regional, LCC, or a Major?

exwaterski 05-28-2009 09:38 AM

I'm betting they show up at a major.

ComairFO 05-28-2009 09:39 AM

I hope it's a major, but they'll probably go to Republic.....

Republic has pretty much commited themselves to be an Embraer product-line company. The excepting is the Continental Express CRJs, which only exist because we needed 50 seaters quickly, after ExpressJet's failed to come to us. Most of which have already been returned to the leasing company. I think there are only 9 remaining.

SADLY, it's my opinion that the CRJ 1000 will be flown by a regional operator no matter where it goes. Regardless of the number of seats, anything built by Embraer or Canadair seems to be considered "regional." With afew exceptions ofcourse (JetBlue, US Airways, Air Canada, ect.).

Bucking Bar 05-28-2009 09:50 AM

SkyWest....

ExperimentalAB 05-28-2009 10:35 AM

Doesn't really matter...the 100-seat RJ cherry has already been...popped. :(

SKW is precluded by scope from flying them for DL or UA.

I doubt they are going to midwest...that market appears locked up by RAH, and they are on weak financial footing. SGU would not buy 16 large airplanes for a crapshoot like that.

I would think they would go to a major. However...I can't imagine of why a major would keep an airplane order a secret. That leads me to suspect they might be going to a regional...or maybe a major which will then outsource their operation..

flyboyzz1 05-28-2009 10:45 AM

SKW for Luv Express

There are a couple of majors out there with no scope.

UND_Sioux 05-28-2009 11:46 AM

Who says they are going to a US Airline? Maybe they are going to a leasing company.

...Very good point :D

G-Dog 05-28-2009 11:51 AM

Going to DAL. For some reason they like the CRJ platform. Don't understand why. The plane is a POS when it comes to passenger comfort. Always having to check bags plane-side.

EmbraerFlyer 05-28-2009 12:18 PM

My guess would be Horizon. Alaska's scope is pretty weak.

saab2000 05-28-2009 12:37 PM

My private conspiracy theory has always been that these are destined for Air Wisconsin to be operated as United Express. AWAC has scope relief in the United contract for up to 18 airframes with a MGTOW of 100,000 lbs. I think.

I don't know the details. This is an old agreement, but is still valid according to several AWAC managers.

In the old days it would have been great. But with United parking airplanes and with United pilots out on furlough I don't want to see mainline replacement airplanes (which the CRJ-1000 clearly is) be put into service there. Or anywhere else as replacement airplanes.

Windsor 05-28-2009 03:53 PM

You can forget ever moving on to a LCC if the shiny new turd shows up on a regional's cert. Flying a 100+ seat plane for regional wages.....no fricking way. If anyone at a regional touches that thing, its game over, management wins. Pilots will never recover what has been given up over the last decade.

el jefe 05-28-2009 03:56 PM

One of the (always believable) rumors from ATW was that AWAC was supposed to be the US launch customer for the "thousand", but the deal has since fallen through

01WJ 05-28-2009 04:05 PM

Maybe NetJets?

chuckyt1 05-28-2009 04:08 PM

Max certified seating capacity of 85 and MGTOW of 90,000lbs.

Piedmont, or Go Jet.

Because it burns 5-10% less fuel than the comparable E-Jet, plus they take advantage of the existing economies of scale the CL65 already has in the Delta system.

The E-Jet is better for passenger comfort, but the CRJs provide a cheaper ticket.

flycrj200 05-28-2009 05:39 PM

They are going to JetAmerica

flyboy626 05-28-2009 06:07 PM

who has the cash to buy them.

Prata 05-28-2009 06:41 PM

NWA bought them to replace some of their old DC-9. Who was flying CRJs Next Gen for NWA?? = Mesabahhhhh

Aviatormar 05-28-2009 10:18 PM

I think saab2000 and xtreme are correct, I hope these don't show up, but atleast we're ready for them, with a decent pay rate. I don't want them simply because United has guys out on the street and this comes at their jobs. Sucks.

ExperimentalAB 05-28-2009 10:46 PM

Yeah it looks like that may be what this sums up to...

Dan64456 05-29-2009 05:37 AM

My bet is they will sell it to the airline that will pay someone 16 grand a year to fly it. Oh wait, that's every regional airline.

SkyWestPilot1 05-29-2009 03:49 PM

Just got on here tonight after months away. This is old news, I thought this was discussed months ago. To recap, about 7-9 months ago on the bombardier site where they update the goings on up there with new projects; A new update came out, for 1-2 days they had the foreign carriers listed and for the US they had SkyWest listed. A couple of days later it was changed back to an undisclosed US Airline. That being said, I'll believe it when I see it.

xtreme 05-29-2009 05:14 PM

Airtran express has been done. Didn't work.

astrojet 05-30-2009 02:52 AM

CRJ-1000 will be flown by code share partners just like the EMB-190 is flown at midwest by republic...the line in the sand will be re-drawn just like it was done when comair flew the first CRJ-200. the lowering of the bar, race to the bottom will continue until alpa is divided in 2 (mainline vs. regional) and code sharing is outlawed.

Airsupport 05-30-2009 05:54 PM

well after seeing the new midwest thread in the majors forum i think we all know where those planes are going.

Sounds pretty credible to me. Just like someone previoulsy stated.....the RJ-1000 is headed to the regionals.

Code sharing won't be outlawed. I had a lovely trip on Air France as a Delta code share.
