Do you think the 250 hour minimum is acceptable? Does it help the industry? Do 250 hour pilots have enough experience to add value to the cockpit?

i just think its sadley ironic that when given the opportunity to voice your opinion with regards to the demise of our once regal industry the first thing to surface is low time pilots. besides those days are gone and all those low timers are hovering around 1500hrs now anyway.

we have ourselves to blame for this mess. the skywesters think its mesa's fault, the mesa guys think its gojet's fault, and the gojet guys think its colgan. i will say this loop has spawned one heck of as great forum with countless hours of entertainment.

If the industry raised the pay instead of lowering standards when they couldn't fill the classes we would be in a better position. Remember there is never a pilot shortage, only a shortage of pilots willing to take a given job for a given payscale. The airlines will never voluntarily raise their standards, that is why I would love to see them forced to raise standards by new FAA regs. I seriously doubt it will ever happen though.

You convienently ignored the questions I asked you about 250 hour pilots in a 121 cockpit.

although i understand your argument and in many ways i do agree with what you are saying but would raising the pay actually attract more qualified pilots? are there even more qualified pilots out there? I know of only a hand full of people who left a 135 turbine gig to go to an airline and of them it was only for quality of life issues not pay.

Do people not realize that there are no longer 250hr wonders at the airlines? They got furloughed, or they have a lot more experience now if they didn't.

Never fly the shiny jet for free ladies and gents! If only McDonals had a better PR campaign, people would be lining up to dip fries for nothing. In hopes of that one day they will become manager, and then maybe an owner. I think today's fry dropper actually has better starting pay and QOL. People have been watching to much Top Gun!

It is fine now (in your 20s), but when your in your 30s making peanuts (chasing the dream) I bet you'll think twice. If you are of age to join, I would consider trying to fly for the Guard or Reserves. Serve your country and get some quality training/flight time. At least then you can move out of Mom and Dad's basement--the chicks will be much more impressed.

Sad but true. Think about what your doing, especially to your financial future (when you can't afford to buy a house or a car and your starting over at your third regional). Believe me, one day the flying honeymoon will be over and it will seem like work (because it is).

If you all band together to build better pay/QOF it could happen. The sad truth is that there will always be that bright eyed kid out of college willing to do it for free (therefore undercutting the whole industry)!

This is big news today. Tomorrow, something else will reign. This will be a forgotten story very soon. The market forces are working. This is capitalism. The lowest bidder will always win. Pure and simple. Sorry to have spoiled what some of you thought was going to be a revolution. :(
