Not true. XJ hired quite a few low timers ie. 250 hour wonders from UND, ERAU etc. One of them is teaching PBS and flies Saab and a lot of them are on CRJ900s, all still under 900 hours total if that.

This is a good place to start at minimum. ATP should be the requirement. You learn a lot between 250 and 1500 hours. Droning around in a school C172 or in a Diamondstar for 250 hours with an instructor does not qualify you to fly a Part 121 jet at 530 knots with 76 passengers on board.

1500 hours may act as a "barrier to entry" to some new hires. All "professions" and industries create certain hurtles to overcome in order to raise standards of the existing industry members.

250 hours is certainly too low IMO and prehaps 1500 should be a minimum.

Keep in mind it WILL NOT solve the problems in the airline industry that keep working conditions for pilots at present levels. It's a bandaid at best.
