CL65 KUDOS to you for telling that to brown tail. You hit the nail right on the head about the pay. I fly with a ton of USAIRways furloughees who do nothing but **** and moan about how crappy the industry is. Well most of the reason that there is so much tension between management and pilots is because of them. They have no clue what a REAL job is and just how good it is to be flying. They are so deep in the forest, they can't see the trees. And 300k a year, to fly a big bus? come on. In this country you can do whatever you want, within reason, for 150k. These high priced pompous a$$es are part of what drove a lot of these airlines into bankruptcy. just my .02

 

Why does everybody actually believe that Browntail actaully works for UPS? All he does is start stuff. I bet he is either a flight instuctor or a bored frieght dog flying a rusting navajo around (not that there is anything wrong with that).

I personally believe that people with Browntail's mentality are 90% of the problem in today's airline industry. Hopefully soon they'll all retire, and leave the industry to people with a more positive attitude. I've also gotta agree with Dckozak, they're a pretty good place to work from what I hear- that was just the Purple and Orange from my past talking again.

Whether he may be flying a heavy for some cargo carrier, or a putzing around in a 172, I hope he pulls his head out of his butt. If he's so unhappy flying, I can name 30 pilots who'd be more than happy to do his job with a big smile on thier face. Heck, I'd even fly for free if I could. I guess that's what happens when the union mentality (sorry guys- I think unions are nothing but organized crime, especially nowadays. if i can fly for a non-union carrier, i will.) takes over. To them its not about brotherhood, it's about getting that last dollar out of your pocket and into theirs- while driving your company into bankrupcy... gotta milk the big aluminum teet.

 

Gotta jump in here guys, since you mentioned my name, than tear off on a non union rant. If you want to work for a non union carrier, go right ahead, they're the ones offering no retirement, little or crappy health care beenies, probably no scheduling limits (if you think that's just union "feather bedding, wait till you've done some back to back 16 hour FAR days). Just check out the lowest paying, dirt bag outfits, and guess what, they'll be the non union properties. :

 

In general unions are a necessary evil in our profession. Most operators that start small and get bigger will acquire a union in the process.

However to be fair Mesa is ALPA and Skywest is non-union (so far).

 

Unions do a lot more than negotiate pay rates with the company... They protect employees from the company, they also have programs to help employee work with each other (Professional Standards), ALPA also has P2P which works to get pilots with other personal problems (addictions) help who ask for it. ALPA also does a lot of work with saftey, ASAP, FOQA, Fatigue studies.

Yes ALPA does have its problems, but there is a lot more there than meets the eye.
