upgrades coming for colgan

Got the message

FlyJSH 07-02-2009 09:10 AM

Colgan is also interviewing for several Director and VP level positions. ;)

OperatorError 07-02-2009 09:12 AM

I'm confused, are they hiring FO's or are they having upgrade classes?

They are upgrading and hiring a couple or three FO's
6-8 FO's in the next few weeks to be exact.

Very confusing. A couple (2) or three (3) six to eight?

Also, since the word is now out, they are pretty much EXCLUSIVELY interviewing internal recommendations for the small class(es) that they plan to run.

"couple or three" meaning a small amount. Company memo indicates the first class in the next few weeks will have 6-8 new hires.

It's hard to speak slang on a message board:)

usmc-sgt 07-02-2009 01:38 PM

Looks like for 6-8 people their wildest dreams are going to come true!

(I work here, I can openly pick on the place)

$50 bucks for each internal Rec. I will say you are God's gift to aviation for an additional $20

pilotgolfer 07-02-2009 02:51 PM

Talk about being under a microscope. I'm sure whoever gets hired is going to be highly scrutinized by the training department and the Feds. They'll probably have Randy Babbitt sitting in the back of the simulator the whole time.

No flame intended what-so-ever. Its good to see some hiring going on.

I thought internal wrecks were free...

Are people actually excited about this with all the negative media attention that Colgan is receiving? Go down the street and find a different $13,000 a year job. Some people just don't learn.

Blackbird 07-02-2009 05:37 PM

I won't believe that Colgan is upgrading people tell I see the class. The whole training department has just been fired or told to leave. So with everybody gone, how are they going to hire or upgrade? Don't get all your hopes up over some email, because Bill and everyone else says not tell the end of the year at the earliest.

CTPILOT 07-02-2009 06:33 PM

nothing on the site yet. I'll check back next week

Who do you work for again?

Well they're just getting rid of the few (very few..) pro-pilot people we had in the dept... it's really a shame. :(
now we are left with some new dude from pinnacle which coming over from that side i would expect nothing more than Buddy-caliber.
the training itself is done by sim instructors and check airmen most of whom haven't been fired yet (lol..?) so that shouldn't be a problem logistically.
but yeah I agree with you, it's entirely annoying when people talk about upgrade constantly, and it's always the junior ones... the more senior guys have been resigned to their fate a long time ago.

ChipChelios 07-03-2009 04:37 AM

In spite of all the experts out there on this, it's going down. At the same time, it's always good to believe none of what you hear and half of what you see!

Not to derail the thread regarding positive movement at a company but......

I figured the first time you used tell it was a typo. Then it came a second time.....so must not be.

It's not tell.....it's 'til...as in until.

Are you including yourself in this statement, since you're employed as an fo?

Agree, I used to work for a small Jetstream operator and remember the FAA scrutiny after an accident where all but 2 passengers had perished... I'd left the company by then but remember my friends talking about the huge microscope lens the feds had put them under...

So what? If you're performing to standards, then what's the problem? I've had feds on LOFT's and sim rides and I don't do anything differently.

flynavyj 07-05-2009 12:26 PM

If it's true, then it's nice to see some hiring going on.

On the other hand, it is kinda sad that folks will flock to the same airline that was under federal scrutiny about not paying their First Officer's a livable wage. All in all, what can you expect i guess?

Are you high? The entire REGIONAL INDUSTRY is under "federal scrutiny" about not paying their pilots, especially FO's, a livable wage.

This is not a Colgan thing, it is a industry wide problem.

Also, the Colgan FO who died in 3407, Rebecca Shaw, was making more an hour than your airline pays their second year FO's.

Pay sucks everywhere, funny a TSA guy who has FO's making $25 on second year pay is throwing stones.

Long live "The Juice!"

cessnamann 07-05-2009 03:52 PM

Maybe it's all a trick. Then management can say to Congress: "see, look how many people are willing to work for this pay."

VideoGuy 07-06-2009 04:03 AM

What planes are they hiring people for? Saabs, Dash8? I thought they were starting to close all or most of the outbases in the MidAtlantic other than IAD and Newark (Sorry don't know the 3 letters for that.) I also heard that if you weren't going to live within driving distances of the base, getting there was going to be more difficult. Some have suggested that you will have to buy a ticket. I have only heard a few things so I really don't know.

I figured Colgan would lay low and suddenly reappear as just Pinnacle.

Fishfreighter 07-06-2009 02:09 PM

The day Colgan opens its IAH Q400 base, there is going to be a giant sucking sound of people bailing out of EWR.

flynavyj 07-06-2009 02:52 PM

Trans States pay sucks....but they weren't on washington trying to defend it....well, that RAA idiot was....hmmm.....I guess we're all kinda under scrutiny, but still thinking some more than others...

keep flight instructing and hauling the frieght kids!!! If you line up for this kind of pay and QOL how will the colgan pilots ever get a contract!

sinsilvia666 07-06-2009 09:40 PM

yeah ewr is pretty much the worst place ever to commute in and out of...its notoriously, reliably unreliable.

avschulz 07-08-2009 10:59 AM

just got what looks like a form email from Chuck Colgan asking me to update my app if I'm still interested in a job there.

After 8 months of being a minimum wage ramper for Lakes, I'm ready to be a near minimum wage pilot for Colgan...

Do us a favor, if you have a crap attitude please dont even update your resume. I love how people talk so much crap all the while trying to get on at Colgan.

Colgan is what you make of it. I am home based, get top 3 schedule and fly with great people. Everything else is being worked on and will get better over time. People need to have that attitude when coming here. I want to smack some of the people we have here when all they do it moan and complain all the while doing nothing to improve conditions.

GlobeTreker 07-08-2009 11:51 AM

Anyone ever notice that Colgan guys are extremely defensive and hostile on here? They are also quite the vocal bunch for being from such a small airline.

I have to aggree with juice, there are reasons at all carriers that guys are happy there, every person and every company have things that are more important to some employees than others. One pilot may prefer no stand ups or hot reserves , or living in base as opposed to straight pay per hour. Everyone has things they are looking for in their job, and most jobs you get back what you put in. Sure my own company is in negotiations for a new contract and there are some things Id like to see changed, but even if it stays the same its good enough for me to stay there a while longer and not be totally disgruntled. I think people get defensive because people behind computers ussually spit garbage they really have no knowledge on, and Juices point is very valid at any carrier. If your going to bash another carrier, just dont go there with a chip on your shoulder while on APC your bashing them
