Repuplic-Frontier-Midwest...Codeshare issues?
I'm not sure if this has been discussed yet in other forums, but I would like to get the take on what may happen to Republic's codeshare agreements with Delta/ United/ US Airways now that they are a Direct competitor via Midwest and Frontier.
I know there are provisions in most regional contracts where if you have a base with one carrier ie united you cannot have the same base for a competitor ie Delta for example... Other than that I have no idea... Any insight??? |

To answer part of your question, republic has multiple crew bases that fly for multiple code shares. Its always been that way. Regarding the direct competition, no one really knows. You can bet all the code share partners knew about this midwest/frontier thing beforehand. Maybe there were agreements, maybe there weren't. Consideing delta nearly owned midwest, im sure they are just fine with what happened. Midwest/Frontier don't really compete with US Air. So the only real question mark is United. Guess we'll see what happens there.

I think the Frontier acquisition is much more important. There are a couple of huge questions here. Is United actually happy with the move because they could be funding a huge undercutting of Southwest out of DEN? Are they happy because the buying of Frontier is just worth its weight in gate space?
Or did RAH buy Frontier to hold the gate space issue over United's head? |
or is buying frontier a hedge if united files chapter 7? Also does united have a chance at doing anything about RAH owning Frontier? What would they do? Drop all the Shuttle America and Chautauqua flights from their schedules. They couldnt handle the cancled flights or the PR mess afterwards.
