I thought I had a great back-up: I'm and engineer with years of experience in the field....right now I can't even find entry level job openings!

And yes, I have sat Ready Reserve a lot lately - on three separate occasions I heard senior captains speaking loudly enough for anyone to hear that we needed to let more go so that they wouldn't have to go back to flying guarantee again this fall. I was near enough to toss a sarcastic barb at one but he wasn't interested in engaging to world around him so it fell on deaf ears.

People are incredibly selfish. I have an uncle working in a low level government position and he and a bunch of the more senior workers refused a 2 day reduction a month to save the jobs of some of their fellow workers. Nearly 50 people lost their jobs because he and others like him were way to selfish to give up 2 days of pay a month. He didn't really need the money either, he simply didn't want to have to give up a cruise he takes every year for a vacation. Instead of showinf a little empathy and giving up a cruise he now gets to watch his coworkers lose their houses. Real classy......

It's selfishness and a lack of financial planning that result in attitides like that. Those captains are either dicks or make poor life choices and have 2-3 alimonies to pay. If you can't make ends meet making 100K+ in a cheap area like the south you are doing something very wrong.

One thing that every pilot (actually every American) should learn is to plan your life around guarentee pay. All per diem and hours over guarentee should be considered a bonus. Go ahead and use some of that "bonus" money to splurge a little but save most of it for a rainy day. That way when you do lose your job, want buy a house, or send your kids to college you have something there to help out. NEVER ever count on anyone for anything like social security or pension because chances are it'll get taken away.

According to an email they are offering a retirment plan for qualified individuals. If my calculations are right the max one can expect from an early out lump sum payment is $57,600 + whatever vacation time they have left. They also get flight benefits and COBRA for 18 months.

They are also offering an early out plan as well.

I don't think they'll get too many takers on this, but who knows. I'm sure there are plenty of guys who need to rebuild their 401K for a couple of more years.

So when are talks of pay cuts coming? Tomato (furlough) / Tomoto (pay cuts) when it comes to saving money it seems.

i believe it. It happened in February too. If anyone doesn't believe it, your best proof right now is a certain 70 captain that keeps running his mouth on ourASA about how him and all his 20 yr + cronies have sacrificed enough in recent contract gains to accept decreased line values now.

I think at this point if I heard a Super senior guy, or anyone for that matter taking in ops of furloughs are better for him, so he can make money, I don't think im gonna think twice. Im just gonna sock em. I even may lose the fight. But at least I will have proved my point.

I’ve heard these comments too. Its selfish and stupid to think you can’t support yourself on less than a 90hr credit line. Seems to me these super senior people have never had to deal with the thought of losing their job. At least at ASA that is. On one occasion I asked the guy what his experience was starting out at ASA. It was about 2 months on reserve and a 3 year upgrade. Wow now that’s a tough road there.

About a decade back quite a few new hires were JM to Captain in initial training and have never sat right seat at ASA. The way the industry is structured has certainly changed.
