That depends on what your company says about it. At SJI, the FOM says you can't have reading material out, but you are not prohibited from having it in your bag. Don't see how the FAA can violate you for being in compliance with an FAA approved document.

Uncle Phil and Krusty Clive can only PINCH-A-NICKEL so long before it is time to pay the piper......I heard rumors that about 6 FEDS were in SOC this afternoon and took some stuff out of the place.

Remember it is about SAFETY FIRST at 9E that is after you take completion factor and profit in to count.Simply The Best.

Not gonna happen...there is no FAR that says you cannot possess reading material in the cockpit. There's not even even a grey area on that.

You are allowed to read anything you want when the airplane is not moving. There are very few things which the FARs say you cannot possess in the cockpit...a weapon is the only thing I can think of, and even that does not apply to everyone. Porno, Booze (unopened), iPod, laptop, DVD's...all good.

so THAT explains why, for the first time in my career here, dispatch not only answered all of my ACARS to them, but did so in less that 5 minutes each time.....BRILLIANT!

count me in I grounded one at an outstation for 24+ hours.......or i should say the plane grounded itsself....i just happened to call mtx and write it up

This isnt the first time i've heard them taking issue with microscopic cracks in the nav light covers but a drain cover...just go sit in on a ground school class, that is more concerning.

Tell Mr Big Shot, "Here to Help You" FAA inspector that the reading material in your bag is for your three hour break at an outstation. Now if you read it in flight in front of him, you get what you deserve for being stupid.
