ah, I remember those days at ACA...don't think it can't or won't happen. Always have a starting over plan. Things when they change happen fast.;)

I think the majority of regional pilots would chose to jump to a major right now, but in the future how many opportunities will there be for hiring? When Delta starts to hire will they bring on 100 or 1000? How many currently furloughed guys with major experience will be ahead of the regional pilots? If it takes 2, 3, or 5 years for majors to start hiring will regional pilots still want to jump ship as badly? Too many "what ifs" to guess how things will pan out in the future.

You left out Charter/Corporate as an option. I am not even close to thinking about a major because of my desire to go back to private aviation.

I did.
I don't want anymore competition. I am secretly panning on getting out of the airlines. My goal is netjets.

..Of course now versus when the airlines start hiring is a huge difference. I know its impossible to see how you will feel in the next five years let alone by dinnertime.

..There are alot of furloughs out there that have not seen the cockpit of an transport category airplane for a year already. Guys at the "regionals" will be qualified AND current. How many apps have a "how many hours in the last 90 days" question.

Thank you for your input all.

Oh, and a defined contribution plan that is a minimum of 12 percent of my gross earnings that I do not need to contribute to. No comparison. Unless you have to say "I'm the top dog, the big cheese, the head honcho...."

Granted I'm pretty exposed to a furlough, but the regionals are in for a much higher downside this time around.

Turbo,
I was going to post the same thing but you beat me to it, my 2nd year pay and schedule is far better than my captain pay and schedule at my previous regional.

You forgot to mention that had you stayed, you'd be sitting in the same seat you are now for half the price!@! Same boat for me, and next year i'll be making more than guys 3 years my seniority at the old job, and working way less. No regrets making the leap! It's a gamble that's proven good so far... soooo far.

2nd yr FO with 16 days off at DL? How are you not on RES? Every DL jumpseat I ever commuted on, which is almost every commute, the crew has told me DL RES is 8-10yrs. Been furloughed this yr though, did things get better at DL?

You guys might not like the way 944turbo is coming accross, but he is right, that's the ugly truth...

Personally, if I'm married, a couple of kids, and a senior captain at a stable regional, I'd stay put.... otherwise, I'd leave any regional for any major. And yes, including USAirways

Just be careful for what you wish for...I left a regional making one hundo K and a good schedule..top 25% in seniority...went to CAL, where I was told at the interview, hiring five hundo behind me, and upgrade in three to four years...hahahaha..thank God for unemployment checks and beer(sanity in a can)...do I regret my choice...you betcha. Dont get me wrong, I took the chance, but I am paying the price now. Feel free to flame away, I gots all day to read forums, mop floors, vacuum and change a diaper.
