No regional exodus?

Well it seems that none of the Majors/Legacies will be hiring at least until we catch up to the age 65 law DEC2012. But by then alot of folks who were once looking to make the leap will have at least 8 years of tenure at their airline. Unless you work at a crummy airline you are pulling home 75k with a decent schedule. Those of you in the top 1/3 of your airline, are you still itching to make the switch or are you reconsidering the leap.

In a nutshell

The Legacies/Majors should be desirable to a top notch candidate. The jump should be worth the huge sacrifice in pay and longevity. What do you think?

btw I mean no malice towards trans-states. Its more of a jab at a friend.

I think that even though the majors should be better and more desirable than the regionals to somebody, there are many reasons why they wouldn't be...and the thing IMO that will keep many folks where they currently are won't be $$$, but will be QOL.

I will jump in a heartbeat. I am in the top 25% where I am now; and wouldn't think twice about making the move.....if I ever get the opportunity.

I don't plan on moving to a "major" unless something drastic happens (like my company going out of business). To qualify that position, I have 8.5 years of seniority, work 15 days a month, and make 85K a year. There's no value for me in starting over.

But don't you want to fly a REALLY BIG SHINY JET?!?!? :D:p

That's a smart move and I think a lot of guys in your situation will do the same.

You left out Charter/Corporate as an option. I am not even close to thinking about a major because of my desire to go back to private aviation.

What a shock. A Colgan pilot wanting to get out. I think there are about 5 people at Colgan who actually want to retire there.

I have 16 days minimum off a month and make close to 90 2nd year on the lowest paying equipment at DAL. Much higher upside as well. Oh, and a defined contribution plan that is a minimum of 12 percent of my gross earnings that I do not need to contribute to. No comparison. Unless you have to say "I'm the top dog, the big cheese, the head honcho...."

Granted I'm pretty exposed to a furlough, but the regionals are in for a much higher downside this time around.
