Displaying the US flag as a tie
Lately I’ve noticed a certain pilot group flying for UAL out of STL and ORD wearing ties that represent the US Flag. Not only does it look tacky, it’s a violation of US Code of Flag Etiquette: ‘The flag should never be used as wearing apparel”.
Am I the only one that finds this disrespectful? |

Is it one of those ALPA ties?
|
Under the code of ethic, the interpretation is that the "actual" flag may not be worn as a piece of clothing. Henceyou can't tie it on and wear it as a cape or cut holes in it and wear it as a shirt.
Ties, Tie tacs are acceptable as long as it isa flag design and not the actual flag. Hope that helps. Whiskey |
You can't tell me that this is all you can complain about.
|
You're gonna have to be indignant about a good number of SWA, and Chautauqua, and ________________- (fill in airline here) pilots if you're concerned about that...

Wow. I find it disrespectful that you find it disrespectful. :(
Only Communist liberal Fashists would find wearing the flag design in any form anything but a statement of pure patriotism... http://www.magicbust.com/shop/media/...tUSABikini.JPG http://www.celebritysmackblog.com/wp...honeymoon1.jpg I find the above images offensive, but I understand that patriotism is about meaning, not symbols. The flag is not as important as as the values it represents. Cheers George |

At least 5-10 comments every day I wore one. Then Mesa said that being patriotic is an offense punishable by termination. I've flown with men and women from the Armed Forces who both wear and say that they like patriotic ties. |

If you ever wear one, I think you'll find that most of the traveling public thinks they're very nice.

I am a SWA FO who proudly wears my American Flag tie everytime I go to work. When I greet the passengers on the jetbridge prior to each flight, I get at least 10-15 positive comments regarding my tie before each flight. I especially get comments when I go through El Paso (Ft. Bliss), San Diego and Norfolk (Navy). Elderly and veterans especially seem to like seeing us wear it. I once had an Air Force 2 star thank me for wearing it as he was boarding the flight. Coincidently...I have never received a negative comment in the 5+ years that I have worn it.
I also tend to wear my Texas Flag tie when I do a day or two of the "Texas Two Step". Texans (I am one of them) love to see state pride in any form. Get a huge amount of comments on that tie as well. Heck...SWA even painted its first specialty aircraft in the Lone Star colors! I use to wear a flag tie back at Mesa as well. All the benefits listed above, plus it really ****ed off my Chief Pilot....Bonus Points! |
I wear one for being an ALPA info rep. They gave it to me. Never really thought of it much, I have recieved a lot positive comments on it. Even in Canada! I suppose if I came to work wearing an American Flag thong, and only that. That would offensive and I might need to have chat with the Cp and mabe some other nice people too. I'm of the male species too so it would really get some attention..

Why complain about the flag? It's on the side of every a/c.
|
I guess saying "God" in the Pledge of Allegiance would bother him too?
Don't like the tie? Don't look at it........... And then I noticed how much your AVATAR looks like one of the biggest tyrants the world has ever known..........what a coincidence........ |

Like everyone else, I also receive many positive comments about my American flag tie. It seems to happen a few times each trip; the passengers like it a lot. I wear it proudly and will continue to do so.
When I was waiting for the shuttle bus one evening I even got a compliment from a Jazz crew. Thanked them for the compliment and told them they can probably get there American flag tie if they talk to there union representatives.. Caught my mistake and quickly corrected myself but we all had a good laugh from it. |

Thank you to all that show your patriotism. I'm one of those guys who proudly wears the flag on his right shoulder every day. |
They look tacky. And the passengers making positive comments are probably the same "patriotic Americans" who drive a gas guzzler expedition with an Osama hunting license bumper sticker and a faded worn our American flag suctioned cupped onto the side window.

I had no idea that there were such lefty pilots out there that flag ties ticked 'em off so much! Heading out to buy one tomorrow. |
I think they look tacky but I don't have a problem with people wearing them.

Oh also, I love my F-150. I love the freedom I have to drive it. Noone will ever tell me what I can or cannot drive. Nor should they. People come to America because they can wear ties that have an American flag and don't have to worry about being told to take it off. |

I love those people. They're probably vets or dad or granddaddies are vets that fought and died for all our freedoms, even the candy-a$$ed haters that would mock people enjoying their freedom driving a gas guzzler and exercising their right to free speech.

Tie that represents the flag = ok.
Flag that you turned into a tie = not ok. I hope this has been informative. |
