The new rules, whatever they may be, will be more restrictive, therefore requiring more pilots. There's no sense in bargaining for something (no more furloughs) that we're going to get for free. In fact, when the new rules go into effect, I predict they'll need to bring back the furloughees anyway.

Not necessarily, they can just work you more days. Granted 30/7 will stop them from taking too much advantage of that.

So the news from SH in my mailbox is that ASA is going back to flica while eBid is regeared for PBS. Does anyone have any new dirt on how the language is coming along. Most importantly, the furlough protection. We all know PBS is more efficient and saves money mostly by requiring less pilots for a certain amount of flying. Is ALPA making sure there will not be anymore furlough's after PBS is implemented?

Read your union email.

That's funny, because I just flew with our number 1 FO and he still can't figure out why he's not getting all his bid choices, and finding out that people junior to him are getting pairings he bid...I'm in the same boat, just not bidding number one, but there is no transparency with our PBS system, and I frequently see junior crewmembers getting pairings I didn't from my first and second layers.

Whats funny is ASA isn't getting the PBS vendor, nor work rules that Skywest has. See, our Union negotiated our PBS with management. We didn't get it forced upon us.......

Anyhow, not saying it will be good - or bad. But, the difference in rules, vendors and setup will be wide between ASA and Skywest on this one. Hey, maybe you can threaten to unionize and piggy back off of us, again!

If that was a response to my post, I'm well aware of the "difference in rules, vendors and setup between ASA and Skyw".... You'll notice my response was to a post from someone here stating how well loved PBS was at Skyw!
As for your smug comment about unionizing...I wasn't originally hired by this company, the one I was hired at was bought by SkyWest, and I've voted for a union every time we've had a vote since then!!

Truman_Sparks 10-15-2009 07:10 PM

Ok. Cool......Smugness retracted.

I knew someone was going to try and come up with some smart @$$ response. Did you smile when you thought it was a good one? Answer the damn question. My email has changed recently and I havn't been able to change it in ALPA's records. If I did I probably wouldn't be posting this would I. Didn't think so.

I'm simply looking for someone to provide some answers on this, not waste a post on the thread.

I don't think he was trying to be a smart @$$, just telling you to check your union e-mail if you haven't. I personally will never post our union e-mails on APC or any public forum. Why don't you just give ALPA a call and have them forward you the recent ALPA ASA Connection Specials? PBS stuff are in the last few that came out.

But to answer your question... They claim it won't but who knows.

I don't know if this has been talked about in here - I didn't feel like looking through 15 pages to be honest.... but what's the language like governing the use of PBS. How much is it. Does anyone have a copy of the document you could send me?

Read your email or contact the union, definitely not a smart @ss response. Here is a link to past asaconnection newsletters.

We don't have that yet at ASA. It has only been agreed to in principle (between the MEC and company, pilots still have to vote). They are drafting the language now and expect to begin roadshows sometime in December (i think).

SayAgain 10-16-2009 12:47 PM

Just wish our first crack at PBS wasn't during December! I can see all kinds of scheduling mishaps during the holidays.

Hoser 10-16-2009 01:41 PM

It will not be bid using any type of PBS at all. You'll bid for Dec the way we used to on Flica. CM got this approved by the vendor (Flightline) and the ASA so that we can become reacquainted with using Flica, NOT PBS.

NoHandHold 10-17-2009 10:12 AM

This should be interesting.

NoHandHold 10-18-2009 01:30 PM

Question....

For someone who is incredibly junior, what incentive is there for voting in PBS??

I dont want to hear the growth argument because that is not guaranteed at all....

NoHandHold 10-21-2009 04:09 AM

Anybody? Answer?

The best argument I could think of is that you're likely to be younger and better able to navigate the technology to get what you want. :D Otherwise, it sucks to be junior regardless!

Because it might be a better system overall? If you're incredibly junior in the current line bidding QOL sucks. It just sucks being junior. Period.
